The 247 site has a thread about the Flying M. Gene Phelps tweeted a suggestion that it might look good to use the old Flying M Helmet since we are now running Air Raid.
Interesting suggestion to match Air Raid, in some way, even if a few games with it.

One of the few logos I like less than the current.

No, thanks.

No.

I'd just like it if we'd return to Maroon helmets as our color instead of white helmets being the primary helmet now. And also if we'd return to maroon jerseys or white jerseys being the primary basketball jersey instead of black as our main jersey now.

curious: other than engineers, who likes this logo?

I'm not an engineer, and I like it. However, I only like it as a throwback/historical novelty thing. I would never want us to start using it as our official logo.

Why do you think engineers are more prone to like it? I'm missing the link there, I guess.

Agree on the current bannerM. Needs off the helmets. What can we do instead.

I don't know. If only there were a simple logo that we owned the rights to, was instantly recognizable, and would look badass on a maroon helmet. . .

That thing came about back when the space program was on the up and State had a major in aeronautical engineering

it might be time for another rebranding. i didnt love any of the stuff they did last go-round and we got basically 4 usable logos. m-state, banner mississippi state, bulldog profile, and bulldog humping, 5 if you include the cowbell one. they were done 12 years ago and werent very good aside from a couple that were functional.

might be time to look into rebranding again because it just doesn't seem to work.

12 Years? Has it been that long since JackAtShelter posted them here?

I dont understand the ribbon(“banner”) and never will. I think getting rid of that would make our current logos much stronger

Don't hold your breath. I may be wrong, but I don't see anything happening on that front this decade.

I like it OK (but I'm not big into what logos look like or what uniforms look like, other than I prefer maroon and white), but that logo was from the time when the US and Russia were in a race to the moon. It was symbolic of the space race at the time.

Maybe we should go back to it. We have a new competitor in China, and we're buying rides to orbit from the Russians. Maybe we're in new space race, or should be.

As far as I know, we still have a major in Aerospace Engineering (don't think we ever called it "aeronautical". It was Aerospace when I was there 65-70, which was pretty much the height of the space race).

im not getting my hopes up, but it would be nice to look into a logo that is more....functional. it has been 12 years....those were found from 2008.

That to me is exactly the correct take. It's been 12 years, at least one regime ago, and the results weren't very good.

My proposal is to spend nothing now, apply the classic MS to the helmets, and let them continue to "Capitalize on the Uniqueness and own-able brand equity" (lol) of the ****** M-state logo on the basketball and all the other official university branding elsewhere.

I've always liked the flying M logo. I'd love to bring it back as a throwback. But I don't think it's distinctive enough to use as part of our brand.

As for M over S, let's save that for the fall after we bring home the national championship in Omaha. Then, and only then, will it be appropriate.

I didn't like it back in the day and don't like it now. I could dig the baseball logo tho.

I like interlocking MSU is the best for football. The baseball logo is way better then the current M State banner.

Its Ugly and Old. Hate it. I’m sure the Geriatrics love it.

I can't figure out if you're aware of the sarcasm or not?

Okay, boomer.

In all seriousness, you certainly hear that excuse, but right now we're using the ****** BASKETBALL LOGO on our football helmets. Baseball logo there instead would be an enormous upgrade.

I agree. The baseball logo is our best, most recognizable logo and should be used in a way thats akin to the Alabama script "A".

For football, the number 1 choice of this gen X'er is the MSJ. 2nd choice is the flying M. Love that logo. M over S should be baseball only until they win a natty. Then plaster it everywhere, for every sport. Hopefully the timing for that switch will be next year.

The Mstate logo was forced on the fans by Larry Templeton. A similar logo was used during the Final 4 run in 96 and he wanted a "unified" logo. It was never fully accepted and we stuck with a separate baseball logo anyway. Templeton's cheap *** never thought we could win in anything other than baseball. I believe the school also let faculty vote on the logo, not the fans. And it's sucked ever since.
I've never purchased a single Mstate item. It's baseball or State for me. That flying M crap is terrible too.

there is so reason for this not to be used for football. Never understood the baseball only thing. It's a silly argument

I agree. I don’t think anyone will argue it’s not our best logo, so why wouldn’t we use our best looking logo for other things? It’s perfect for a football helmet based on shape.

Does anyone think since we have a new coach, that we really might see a miner uniform change or different helmet logo? I'd love to see a MS or the stacked MS logo on our helmets and no white helmets at all..
