At first I thought it said "Frenchmen to Watch" and I was very confused. I guess Francois would still kinda count.

All I care about is that we've reached the point where if a freshman is capable of helping the team he will play. No more "saving" a guy when we need to win right now.

You'll still see some of that, but the 4 game redshirt rule helps a lot. Frost was just quoted recently repeating something he took from Dana Altman, which was that a team should "Get old and stay old."

NU is still a very young team and the fact is most true freshman aren't ready mentally or physically. WR and DB are the only positions you're likely to see true freshman make a lot of impact except for the incredibly rare guy such as Toniu Fonoti, Dom Raiola, LP, Ahman Green, Grant Wistrom, Ralph Brown. And even some of those guys were backups as freshmen. Those are all guys who were high draft picks.

This will still be a very difficult year with the amount of 2nd and 3rd year guys they'll be forced to rely on. You'd like to have your starters consist of a lot of juniors and seniors, especially 4th year juniors and 5th year seniors.

Agree, we will be a much better team when most of our starters are juniors and seniors and we aren’t relying on so many freshmen and sophomores like we have been the last 2 seasons. Change is around the corner my friend....it’s a matter of time.

I agree with both of you guys, all I'm saying is we can't win 4 or 5 games this year and leave any bullets on the shelf. Hopefully we can win 7-8 while preserving redshirts and plan to dominate in 2-3 years. Obviously its hard for freshmen to be physically ready to where they are clearly the best at their position.

Myself I think we hit the 7-5 to 8-4 range this season (assuming we play the full season and not a partial one). But unfortunately we are still a very young team and although we have more experience this year then we had in the last 2 seasons, we are still young in many areas too.

Yeah, I think 7-5 means we had a good year. I would accept 6-6, because at least we'd get a bowl game. If we get to 8-4, that means this team and this coaching staff have really started to figure things out.**

** This assumes there is a full season with bowl games as planned. That could change. **

Very good quote. Get old and stay old. ESPECIALLY in the BIG. The guys you mentioned who played big roles as freshman back in those days were at worst high 4 star guys and in most cases 5 stars.

I also agree about the guys on the OL/DL generally needing time. When we start seeing 4-5 upperclassmen on both OL/DL i think we will see better teams

The problem is that you actually may never have an "old" team again like in years before with all the portal transfers or early NFL departures if they're talented. Kids keep leaving these days to go where they think the "grass is greener".

Look at basketball these days. That may be where football is headed. Especially if they relax transfer rules even more.
