No it wasn't a football scandal. It was an entire athletic administration scandal along with other university administration. There needs to be jail time for those involved, and sanctions levied aginst the entire athletic department. As punishment for JoePa since he's not around anymore...tear down his statue, and remove his name from the NCAA record books. It appears he was more concerned about records and his name than the welfare of 10 year old kids.Coach34 said:"Paterno, in a letter he had prepared but was not published before his death, asserted that whatever the failings in the Sandusky affair — his or the university’s — it did not constitute a “football scandal.”

“Regardless of anyone’s opinion of my actions or the actions of the handful of administration officials in this matter, the fact is nothing alleged is an indictment of football or evidence that the spectacular collections of accomplishments by dedicated student athletes should be in anyway tarnished,” Paterno said in the letter.
probably the fact that no one that was on the staff with sandusky or conspired in the cover up of sandusky has anything to do with penn st anymore?WalkTheDawg said:Have u seen their commit list? All of this is coming out and they have a list of highly rated recruits including the top rated tight end in the country committed. What are these freaking coaches selling for them to commit to that place?

</div><div>The NCAA exists to promote fair play and competition among its member schools. NCAA regulations exist to prevent any school from gaining a "unfair" advantage over other schools in the recruitment of amateur student-athletes.The Sandusky atrocities are WAY outside its scope and jurisdiction.</div><div>
</div><div>Let the proper legal system handle this case. The individuals responsible will be held to account. Sandusky already has. Those involved in the cover-up are next.</div><div>
</div><div>Everyone wants to see Penn State suffer for what happened. I won't argue it shouldn't. I wouldn't shed a tear for Penn State football if it was permanently disbanded. I just think this is outside the scope of the purpose of the NCAA. The NCAA's jurisdiction is amateurism and athletics. Not criminal acts like these.</div>
