I agree with you senior. I’m very frustrated with the poor results and apparent acceptance of poor results by TU.
I like Rick Dickson, but my view of his current tenure is changing. I was viewing him (maybe from his first tour at TU) as a dynamic change agent to turn around the underperforming and apathetic athletic department at Tulsa.
I now think we will look back on Dickson as the guy who stabilized a very bad & declining athletic department. He inherited a TU athletic department that was slowly but consistently sinking under a low energy, underachieving AD & a dysfunctional administration, with constantly changing goals.
I still hope Rick steps up and becomes the dynamic change agent he could be. If not, I hope he helps set the stage for a new era of TU athletics.
TU athletics still has a “golden” opportunity to grow as the main sports entertainment option in a growing metro area of over 1 million people. It will take a dynamic, energetic, enthusiastic individual to lead TU athletics into becoming a vehicle to showcase the University of Tulsa to more prospective fans & students in the future.
This literally just happened like 3 months ago. The paint on the new guy's office isn't even dry yet. It's almost like you just ***** without paying any attention at all to what's going on.
Is there any chance that there really is a “for you my friend” type of deal that will keep the coach in place next season no matter what.
We obviously don't have the worst football coaches in the conference. Maybe the worst HC, but he has proven time and again the coordinators and assistant coaches are very capable as evidenced by the fact that P5s want to take our coaches away AND have them in turn lure our players away. You don't get P5 offers by being a bad coach.
I think we need to target a power conference coach who has a mediocre record & is looking to jump ship before NCAA sanctions hit his program. In fact, if we could find a coach who has done this twice, that would be even better!
So...just throwing this out there. What about an established and proven D2 coach? 2 names: Brett Ballard (Washburn) and the 2nd is a little more local, Justin Barkley (Rogers St). Ballard's record and success speak for themselves. They've been great since he got there. Barkley I think gets overlooked. He guided RSU out of NAIA into D2. In their 3rd year of probationary membership in D2, they won their conference regular season title. He's got a 208-116 career record. And RSU plays in one of the toughest conferences in D2

After Mizzou did that when Haith left they suffered. Not saying we necessarily would but it’s a hard transition to make.
Think Barkley likes working on the family ranch in Inola with his dad, and his wife is the AD at Union. Certainly a local guy, but successfully recruiting D1 takes a special type of commitment that isn't for everyone. I would think that he's had the type of success at RSU that would have landed him a step up HC job or D1 assistant at a strong program if he wanted it.
I always wondered about that. I've meet his wife on a couple of different occasions (my son plays soccer for Union). She is fantastic. I knew Justin was from Inola but I didn't know he was still actively involved in the ranching/farming part.
Yeah, I would agree this would be a good one to bring in. I mention Ballard because I follow him on Twitter and have since he was an assistant here under Manning. He went to Wake with him and then he took over at Washburn. This year was a rebuild for them but 2 years ago he had one of the best teams in the country. I think he can coach but the recruiting to D1 is a question. I think he probably can.
