and this is why I dont get too caught up in how the refs are....you see teams get the benefit one day and the screw job the next.

Late last night I was texting with someone who watched the game and all he said was "Nah. They got blown out. Officiating was disgraceful, though. It’s even worse in this Indiana game."

His "Nah" was in response to me asking him if Fran was upset about a no-call that caused Bohannon to miss a shot.

Iowa fans think that if ran is suspended it will be a B1G suspension and not one issued by AD Gary Barta.

Barta will probably be asked about Fran today during a press conference where it is officially announced that play-by-play announcer Gary Dolphin will be reinstated beginning with coverage of football spring practice. Dolphin will also return for the 2019-2020 football and men’s basketball seasons. Dolphin was not suspended by Barta he was suspended by Learfield’s Hawkeye Sports Properties.

The referees in the Indiana game were BRUTAL against Wisconsin.
Simply brutal.

There should be an investigation it was so bad.

If we get anywhere near the same treatment, might as well not make the trip to Indiana.
We’re screwed.

Did you hear Dakich taking about it during the game?
What a joke.

I was at a HS Regional Final and didn't get home until the Indiana/Wisconsin game was ending. Someone I know did watch that game and the Iowa game. He agrees with your assessment of the officiating. Here is some of what he text me:

"Officiating was disgraceful. It’s even worse in this Indiana game." Then added "Ethan Happ just had his jersey pulled like two feet on a spin move and the refs didn’t call a foul. Then on the next possession Iverson got smacked in the face, bodied and hacked on both arms with no call. I mean, I get a bad call here and there, this Indiana game is laughably bad."

So we've got a week to prepare for the game, reason for revenge, and are facing a team dealing with a scandal over an announced and a scandal with their head coach... seems like we could have a shot here.

Your friend is right. Refs were horrid last night. Announcers spent a lot of time pointing out how bad. And Happ had his Jersey yanked twice within 3 or 4 trips down the court. I believe the Iverson hack job was in between. That game would have never even gone to OT if not for the refs. Wisky would have won in regulation.

So, have you gone from "it's not impactful to the game" to "it's impactful, but over the course of enough games, it evens out"?

Because its something you cant control..it balances out over time. Im not worrying about it.

Your take on referees is freakin bizarre.

Did you watch the Indiana / Wisconsin game last night?
Did you read what Russ’ buddy said?

Just for starters - the 2 blatant jersey holds on Happ but no calls.
After the 1st hold, Happ took it to the rim and scored a layup, but it was waved off. LAUGHABLE.
2 points in an OT game.

And there were a bunch more no calls, as well as whistling Wisconsin for being in the vicinity (Happ trying to block someone jumping towards the hoop was one.)

The announcers were LAUGHING at how bad it was.

And you say it’s okay. It will even out over the season.

It cost Wisconsin that game.
How does it get made up during the rest of the season?

And if Indiana finished tied with Rutgers and wins the tie breaker, it’s okay. It all evens out over the season.

Dude, you must be trolling because you are in the 0.1%

It's a hard game to ref-----when you go on the road expect little from the refs.

Play through it and deal with it---------this isn't a new occurrence.

Grabbing handful of jerseys - come on, now.
That’s not hard to see.

Wisconsin is one of the schools that I often here the most bitching that they get away with handchecks and screens and some dirty play. We had fans bitching how Iowa got the benefit of calls vs RU...well my take is these things even out, everyone gets their turn in the frying pan.

fact is Wisconsin had the chance to win that game multiple times late and didnt. They missed a shitload of free throws, missed easy layups and gave up easy layins. Ultimately that is why they lost. Indiana won the game, they deserved it.

i can give two craps about the refs. they literally can do whatever they want without anyone even questioning them. it is embarrassing that mccaffery has to resort to that to get his point across. every single year the refs get worse and worse with less and less accountability. Good for fran.

my prime example is St. Johns at Seton Hall. What that ref did to st. johns was absolutely disgusting, then went and lied and said he blew it because of clock error. Disgusting. What is even more disgusting is even thought st. johns had the game won, people in the media started making excuses for ref and said st. johns gave up a 10 point lead, st. johns missd layups...ALL THAT IS BS. the players are supposed to make mistakes not the refs. especially in the biggest play of the game. if a st.johns player makes a mistake like that they are blasted on espn, on social media and in every news paper. hell on this message board people criticize the players for much less.. the ref makes a mistake and the big east comes out with some lame excuse to not take accountability for the call and the ref is back reffing the next game.....

how about the ref who made the last two calls in the Minnesota game from the opposite side of the court in both calls give Minnesota the opportunity for free points? what happened to him? nothing? You know what we said? Rutgers has trouble closing out games.

it is a joke

LOL

Game never should have went to OT.
Yes, in OT, Wisconsin missed a ton of FTs. If they made them, they would have OVERCOME the horrendous refereeing.

By your logic, the Saints didn’t lose the NFC championship game to the Rams because of the blatant missed PI call.

It was because they didn’t score more points in the 1st half.

It’s okay Saints fans and players.
It will even out in the end.

first of all there was no guarantee that they would have made the fg from there, secondly the Saints could have won in overtime but they didnt.

These polar positive are each half true.

Occasionally there are ref errors that are so accurate as to have critical impact, the Saints play is an example of that.

But the general truth that most teams benefit and suffer based on their skill level is true. Bad teams suffer more because they are less able to make up for bad calls. And less able to take advantage of those times when the refs favor them. But bad calls typically do balance out, with exceptions (see Duke).

It doesn't matter that Colorado won the game on a 5th down TD in 1990 - Missouri had every opportunity to stop them again, but they didn't.

The obtuseness never ends, does it?

It’s almost like an Al, “Look at me” take.

The officials were bad early in a game I covered last night in Tampa. Rivalry game, took a near player fight and the ensuing 10 minutes video review, for the officials to get their ish together and call a good game the rest of the way.

Complaining about the ref is fine....just be balanced. Is it OK to say we lost or were hugely disadvantaged in game X because the officials but then not say we won the Minnesota game becuase the refs were bad.

If I had a post saying we won the game vs Minnesota because the refs were terrible I;'d be Public Enemy #1

That's essentially what my post was after the game - we definitely got a favorable whistle over the last four and a half minutes or so, that turned into points that we probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I don't think I'm Public Enemy #1 (though I haven't checked the wall of the board Post Office in a while...)

Go start a thread....”thank goodness we had our 6th man” and see how that goes

I have no problem with people getting upset with officials. I have a problem with personal attacks ie making fun of height AND bitching at every little thing.

I’m looking forward to RU getting the W this Saturday and Iowa’s season spiraling into the toilet bowl with continued losses to end the season, the BIG tourney and one and out in the tourney. What a douchebag fan base.
