Sounds like it wasn’t really his fault. Pedestrians make some bad choices. The kid got fined it sounds like just because they almost had to because the pedestrian always has the right away.

I had a Dr friend whose kid hit and killed a guy who committed suicide by jumping in front of his car. It really messed the kid up and of course upon learning that the kid’s dad was a Dr they sued. Fortunately they turned down a fairly large settlement from insurance then lost the court case and had to pay court costs and legal fees. Got nothing.
