We lost because we couldn't figure out an answer for Giorgi. Without Giorgi steamrolling us, we probably blow them out.

Or they count the Caleb basket where he was clearly fouled in a shooting motion, and just maybe we win by 1!

Even the announcers (Stephen Bardo) questioned that one.

Whether it is the primary reason or not, the inability to hit a higher % will always be more prominent in close games particularly on the road. You have to wonder if enough emphasis is placed on this during practice. At some point, as the roster continues to improve, it should be a point of emphasis when determining who gets minutes particularly down the stretch. BTW this is far from a Rutgers specific issue. Seems like a lost fundamental for many at the college level.

We lost this game for one reason only and that’s foul shooting
Rutgers loss the game because of foul shooting, missed shots around the basket,no defense against Illinois center and no go to scorer in over time.In such a close game if any of these problem areas were reduced in impact Rutgers would have won the game.

We went 13-21 on FTs which is 62%. Even if we shot a more respectable 70% that would only give us 2 more points.

Contrast that with Harper going 0-7 from three, which is 0%. If he makes just one of those and shoots 14% from the arc, we get 3 more points.

If Harper makes just 2 of those 7 we likely win.

I didnt realize the 0-7 until I looked at the box score this morning. Most were open looks. I think that was a bigger factor than the FT shooting as Illinois wasn't really much better %wise.

We make one more FT in regulation, we win.
