Those of you who are better at assessing officiating than I am, what did you make of the insane foul discrepancy in the second half in particular? Legit?

I thought it was going to come back to haunt us. We picked up about 3-4 off the ball fouls in a quick span.

It was crazy.

At the 10:12 mark, we put Illinois in the bonus with our 7th foul, and they had just 1.
At the 5:29 mark, we put Illinois in the double bonus with our 10th foul at 5:29, and they had just 3.
At the 2:35 mark, they still had just 3 fouls as they ratcheted up the pressure and committed 6 more fouls down the stretch.

IMO the refs call way too many fouls all the way around in every game. Let them play.
Sometimes we benefit sometimes we don’t.

They’re rational I’m sure is a foul is a foul and when they review with their bosses they can explain it, where as not calling something they can not explain.

Reiber was so blatantly hacked on one drive that wasn’t called it was laughable. That being said, refs are just inconsistent. Every team feels they get screwed.

That one was wild.

Overall the refs were fine IMO. We played aggressive and could have even called for even more fouls. Kofi gets hacked all the time and they let a lot go which was huge for us

Omoruyi was very handsy with Cockburn with a lot of reaching in that went uncalled - overall I was happy with the way the game was officiated, but I tend to like a looser whistle.

There were several really bad calls/no calls. The ticky tack on Ralph, followed by him getting mugged right after.
Paul getting whacked across the face, no call...

It cracked me up when John Kreese (Brad Underwood) was complaining about a call late in the 2nd half when Geo went to the line. It was 10-3 in fouls at that point. Yeah, RU played a more physical game, but still out line.

End of game fouling fascinates me, even more so when one team has so few fouls. What normally happens in a close game is the teams guards who have maybe 1 or 2 fouls, immediately are in foul trouble and some foul out. Never understood why teams don’t try to have a designated fouler or two on the court rather than getting their star players in trouble.

The word is out that we play like junkyard dogs. There is no doubt the officials hear in between games and during games that RU grabs, holds, bumps players off the ball. That’s why we get so many of them called. That said, we were not settling for jumpers yesterday so the foul discrepancy was notable

Reffing was terrible for about 10 + minutes in the 2nd half. They were calling everything on us and missed that blatant foul on Reiber.

Luckily our lead was big enough.
