website.School officials did not provide additional details but
said that the Brandon Police Department is investigating the
allegations.Chief Ken McBroom said officers are investigating two
complaints against Hall, but no charges have been filed and he does not
expect any charges to be filed in the future.

Was he getting a little too close with one of the cheerleaders?

If that is the case this guy must be dumb as hell to risk his job and career over a 17 year old piece of ***.

think they'd wait until school ended and do this quietly.

And yes, I'm guessing this inappropriate behavior involves a student.

but there is a clause where they can fire you for inapporpriate behavior. It's no different than any other contract.

I used to teach and it's kind of passive aggressive how they handle it. You either get a contract in your box at school or you don't. You either accept the contract or you don't. If you don't get a contract, you better start looking.

An Ole Miss graduate I work with (a bulldog at heart) told me yesterday that he had a friend from college who is a school teacher that was fired this week. I have no way of knowing if this is the same guy. He said that he was fired for sexual text messages and inappropriate behavior with a 7th grader. This seems like it could be this guy, but I really just don't know.

Edited to add: my friend is from Brandon as well

can I imagine a 7th grader worthy of risking all that for.

The girl in the picture - 17/18 years old.

7th grader - 12/13 years old.

I want to say 17 or older is legal...of course, its inappropriate with anybody you teach...but the fact that the police are involved leads me to believe she is 16 or younger

The state just passed a budget 2 days ago. The schools cannot issue a contract until it is funded in the state budget. Last year they did not issue contracts until July because the state put together a budget at the very last hour.

and I certainly do not condone the behavior, but my point was that if it was a 16-18 year old girl that looked like the one in the picture, it would be wrong, but if its a 12-13 year old girl, that's a sick problem.

In Mississippi, the age of consent is 16. This is the age at which a
man or woman in Mississippi may legally consent to sex with an adult, in
most cases. The age of consent law covers heterosexual activity.
Mississippi currently has no valid statute that addresses the age of
consent for homosexual behavior.

The age different of the partners is a factor in the Mississippi age
of consent laws. Young people who are between the ages of 14 and 16 can
legally consent to sex with a partner who is no more than 36 months
older. Thus, a 15-year-old girl can legally consent to sex with her
17-year-old boyfriend, but not with his 44-year-old father.</p>

Mississippi law requires that both the bride and groom be 21 years
old in order to marry without parental consent. It is the only state in
the union with such a requirement. Of the 50 states, 48 allow couples to
marry as long as they are 18 years old or older. If individuals under
21 wish to marry and their parents are not present, the parents are
notified of the ceremony by certified mail. In most cases, marriage
licenses are not granted to males under 17 or females under 15, even
with parental consent.</p>

Technically, under the Mississippi age of consent laws, the crime
commonly called statutory rape is referred to as sexual battery. The
crime of sexual batter applies when there is penetration of a young
person between 14 and 16 years of age by an offender who is at least 36
months older. This crime carries a sentence of up to 5 years in the
state prison if the offender is between 18 and 21 years old. If the
offender is over 21, the sentence is up to 30 years in prison.</p>

Sex crimes involving penetration of a child under the age of 14 by an
offender at least 24 months older are also sexual battery, under
Mississippi law. The sentence for this offense, by anyone over the age
of 18, is 20 years to life in the state prison.
</p>"Inappropriate behavior" could cover any number of things, but usually refer to some kind of sexual contact. The issue isn't whether the child "legally" had sex with the coach/teacher, but whether the coach/teacher violated the State Board of Education's policies regarding appropriate teacher/student contact.

the age of consent doesn't matter. Whatever he did may have been legal if he hadn't been a teacher at the school she was a student at. I'll defer to our resident expert Bulldog Backer for anything else having to do with age of consent. And I agree completely with 615dawg. If she's a senior and hot, it's still wrong but I can understand how it could happen. If she's a 7th grader, that's sick.

The female teacher in Tupelo area was charged last year because if authority figure, the age of consent becomes 18. It was on WTVA is howI knew.</p>

And what 14-17 year old girls are doing today scares me and should scare all you Daddys. I had a few things personally I had to nip in the bud, but just hearing the stories from my players of what certain girls had done was just disheartening...

imagine being told that the latest fad was girls letting guys bang them in the *** so they could technically remain virgins longer...HS girls of this generation as even worse than boys now because of the way society has changed...its really frightening

HS girls offering coach's ***** is not a new thing, but they are much, much more aggressive in the way its done now...but I really hope this guy was messing with a damn 12-13 year old

In the case where the older person is in authoritative position, such as teacher- student, the law is different. Age of consent doesn't matter.

Like a teacher, doctor, lawyer, accountant, message board entrepreneur, etc. I don't know whether "message board sunshine pumper and kool-aid drinker" is considered such a position.

Here's the law, just FYI.

(2) A person is guilty of sexual battery if he or she engages in sexual penetration with a child of fourteen (14) but less than eighteen (18) years if the person is in a position of trust or authority over the child including without limitation the child's teacher, counselor, physician, psychiatrist, psychologist, minister, priest, physical therapist, chiropractor, legal guardian, parent, stepparent, aunt, uncle, scout leader or coach. (Miss. Code Ann. 97-3-95(2))

And the way I read the statute, an 18 year old student would be okay as far as this particular state law is concerned. I am sure that there would be some professional ramifications, but criminal charges wouldn't seem to apply. An interesting question.
