Smith was on the scout team for the ‘82 NC team, as well. He played a very important role in preparations for the Sugar Bowl, impersonated Herschel Walker in practice, did so perfectly.

This sucks. If you were around at the time, you know that the 1986 team gave us the season of a lifetime. RIP Steve Smith

He and manoa were smash mouth fullbacks that were perfect compliment to dozier and Thomas at running back. Sad when I heard it during the broadcast .

It is difficult for me to grasp the courage that it took to battle such a horrible disease for so long. May he rest in peace.

My grandfather was diagnosed with ALS late in his life. He lasted roughly a year after the disease really set in. Just a terrible way to go. So much credit goes to the family as well that have to deal with such hardship.
