Knowing that the 4a football thread is the most watched and commented on, I just want to bring everyone's attention to something special going on in girls basketball.

Saturday, the Highland Springs Girls basketball team got to 13-0 with a dismantling of previously 12-2 Bethel, 78-35.

According to my good friend Springers76, in nine of their games the girls have scored over 90 points. In three of these games the Lady Springers have broken the century mark, with a high of 126. And folks, many of these blow out victories have been over very good teams.

I'm very happy for the Springer community. The parents, grandparents, and others have stepped up in recent years and turned Highland Springs into a high school that sets an example. Mentoring, nurturing, and leading by example, the proud folks of the Highland Springs community are helping produce kids that are prepared to be productive and respected citizens that we all can be proud of.

Good job folks.

Thank You DP! They are doing a very good job of setting not only their own standards high, but they are raising eyebrows everywhere. Not only in the State of Virginia, parts of the country are taking note too.
Me and the rest of "SpringerNation" are VERY proud of "The Program" being set into place.

The Lady Springers went to 14-0 with a workmanlike victory over LC Bird. Final score was 65-40.

With all the good that is happening here, I can't help but wonder what's happening with Boys Basketball. Over the past 3-4 years, there has been an exodus of talented basketball players transferring out of HS's program to Private Schools and Henrico HS. Is it coincidence? Or something else?

How is HS boy's team looking Springer76? Saw they only lost to Henrico by a couple and then played an ugly game against Bird. With the best coach in the state, I'm expecting them to be better than their record states.

They are not very good this year. They are currently 8-9. Very young and inexperienced. They have been on a downward trend for the last 2 or 3 years. I really don't understand why. I do know that there have been a lot that transferred out. I have heard that some of the youngster don't want to deal with the discipline that Coach Lancaster requires. He is tough! He has rules! He is "Old School"! He will tell them if they don't like his kind of discipline, go somewhere else! Unfortunately, parents of today see what the kids want, more so than what the kids need! Just my perspective.
