Let's see...2 or 3 elite players surrounded by some pretty good ones. Sounds like what Wisconsin put on the floor the past couple years.
Wait a minute though. Bo Ryan is 0-2 in the Final Four. That's no good. Of course we won't know how bad he is until 4 more trips.
How about Michigan St.? They follow this formula very well.

Kansas always seems to have a couple of studs mixed in with upperclassmen. But the funny thing is, they've only been to one FF since Cal got to Lexington. Good thing they didn't get to 4 or 5...they could have had more losses!!!
How's about perennial blueblood UNC? They only had one guy drafted this year, but they usually have a couple. And lots of their players hang around to provide that upperclassmen leadership.
But there's something wrong here too. Ol Roy hasn't sniffed the Final Four since 2009. At least he knows how to close the deal when he gets there.
I guess it all boils down to Duke and UCONN. They have each won 2 titles since Cal got here, which proves that Cal's system doesn't work. I knew there was proof in there somewhere.

His point of view is a bit different. It is obvious he doesn't like Cal.
First Cal has not performed good enough as he references Cal's failure to win titles.
Secondly he would rather have a team as you have described over our team the last six years of which he would fair far worse than the standard he set for Cal.
Many times the more these complainers talk, they will work themselves into a corner, and show their true colors running out of reasonable responses.
Now I do not believe he is a troll by any means. He just doesn't like Cal.
Doesn't like the words Cal says.

Doesn't like the make-up of Cal's rosters.
Is not satisfied with Cal's performance.

Katswatcher, you said Cal was trying to please some or all of the players he promised PT to, but it's been proven over and over again by player after player's own words that Cal never promises PT or starting spots.

Do you realize what would happen to you as a coach if you did something so stupid as that? 'Hey fans, I opted for this lesser athlete because we were going to have too many great ones.' The irony is you'd probably be leading the mob railing against such a horrible and undefendable decision. Must have been reading too many self help books that preach less is more.
As regards the playing of the Harrison twins to bump their draft status, that's a conspiracy theory right up there with not landing on the moon. We're talking an Area 51 special. I think it would make a wonderful call in topic for a pregame show. I wonder if you'd have the guts to say that to Calpari face to face. I'd pay for a seat at that interview, particularly if the twins were there too.

NBA GM's disagree with you obviously. Was Josh Harrelson on anybody's radar until he spent one year with Cal? As long as Cal has twice as many first rounders as any other coach your argument is pretty lame. Especially when some of the guys being drafted are not on anyone's mock drafts to start the season like Booker, Bledsoe and James Young.
It is amazing to me that some can't see that...
1) Cal uses these statements to let the kids know he will help them get to the NBA if they come here
2) The end result of getting those kids here and getting 6-8 guys drafted is Final Four's, and Championships

First of all its " Katwatcher" ----no problem. I also said it was my opinion he promised PT because there is no way of knowing. Players say lots of things .
I think you will agree that PT is discussed when coach and player go through the recruiting process. That is what this thread is about, trying to figure out exactly what Cal said. He makes a statement that his followers doesn't agree with and the denial starts. Thats coach speak or he wasn't talking to the fans, just players. I'm guessing there will always be someone who can tell us what he meant. jmho
Devin Booker is a good example. Ranked by Rivals as the #29 player in the 2014 high school class. So, not a top 10 player, doesn't start at UK - and yet is a lottery pick.
The #30 player, for reference was Shaqquan Aaron. Went to UofL, played 7 minutes a game, just transferred IIRC.
The notion that all coaches and programs are interchangeable when it comes to developing talent and getting kids to the NBA is simply foolish. Those who say otherwise have a bias or an ignorance......

I'm sure PT is discussed by almost every coach out there, but Cal says he doesn't, and not one player has contradicted that. So, unless you think every one of them has a reason to lie about that, or that Cal asks them to lie about it, then why not believe them? And Cal?
Evidently Hawkins and Willis were not promised starting or playing time. The other players had nothing to contradict as they got their playing time. That is why he used the two platoon system. No one knows what was promised unless they were in attendance at the home visits.
Its no big deal, but the platoon system has never worked all that well. Dean Smith used it more than any coach that I remember and he didn't use it very long. I see no benefit from it other than try to please 10 players wth playing time.
I have seen this mentioned by most of our recruits and some of our best players..
