I was skeptical when fox retired about hiring from within....boy was i wrong
I don't mean you are any other player who played football for Carolina is a joke but almost everything that has occurred since BB was hired has been nothing short of a disaster and we are made fun of because of BB and stuff with the girl.As a football letterman I do take exception to the program being called a joke. You can advocate for more money for baseball without disparaging the programs that prop up baseball and every other program at this University that wouldn't exist without them.
See, stuff like that doesn't bother me. We're paying him to win games not be the Dean of Students. Last year, the results weren't what some expected. He has two more years to figure it out or we will be looking for a new coach.I don't mean you are any other player who played football for Carolina is a joke but almost everything that has occurred since BB was hired has been nothing short of a disaster and we are made fun of because of BB and stuff with the girl.
I hear you but the Jordon stuff doesn’t embarrass you at all?See, stuff like that doesn't bother me. We're paying him to win games not be the Dean of Students. Last year, the results weren't what some expected. He has two more years to figure it out or we will be looking for a new coach.
I know the board doesn’t need me to validate this but Mahler is spot on here. Forbes was most definitely considering this move and I was worried that he might leave. SC was willing to wait through the supers for Forbes but thankfully we came up with the money we needed to come up with. I think people would be surprised at how close SC came to taking our coach. Not my place at the moment. Maybe another time. I can say SC was prepared to make Forbes on of the highest paid coaches in America. Same with his staff and NIL. This was a full court press. Saying they had no shot or Forbes didn’t consider it is wrong.
Not at all. I really couldn't care less what someone does in their personal life. I get it if some are embarrassed because their friends that pull for other teams give them a hard time or they don't like the media harping on it.I hear you but the Jordon stuff doesn’t embarrass you at all?
If 2026 goes as bad as predicted, he likely has just five more months. He has two more years to figure it out or we will be looking for a new coach.
It's certainly bled into his professional life thoughNot at all. I really couldn't care less what someone does in their personal life. I get it if some are embarrassed because their friends that pull for other teams give them a hard time or they don't like the media harping on it.
Guess I'm wired a little different and try not to let the little stuff bother me these days. Lot more yesterdays than there are tomorrows at my age which probably plays a part in my attitude.
Certainly, we add immediate value to any conference we join, but if it doesn’t offset the approximately $75 million we’re taking out, that won’t fly. And we still have to repay the financed buyout.Incorrect. We finance the buyout. The delta between the ACC vs Big10/SEC is so great that we will have more revenue every year the day we make the switch. The buyout will be a long term liability - just like the BlueZone.
I don’t expect a significant contribution to the buyout, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we got some help.
And we will add immediate value to every team in the conference once we join. It would be expansion malpractice for us to fail to consider competing offers from both conferences. And there are very few schools in that position. Maybe UVa. Even Notre Dame is likely just Big10 or nothing.
I quoted it. Others have quoted it. Greg has quoted it. You can read it for yourself either above in this thread or pull the financial report.Mmm, you sure?
With all due respect, you’re making a lot of assumptions without being in on how this went down.Thanks. But I have no false illusions of such. I just didn't mention it because, well... its the same rhetorical question. There is/was NO WORLD in which newmark did not respond the exact way he did. Support for Forbes, staff, program... and not in that order. Anyone who knows Coach forbes knows full well he was far more interested in others. There is simply no realistic world where UNC did not do exactly what they did. and since I knew that was going to be the end result when it became public last Thurday... this was the only logical and realistic result. And THIS is why when someone calls, you owe it to all involved to say... Ok, I'll hear you out. which is exactly what and "all" forbes did. Back to a post I made up top... this is how sausage is made. Someone calls, you agree to listen, and then intelligent administrators sit down and figure out what is needed. This is where we were gonna end up. It just was. You have to understand the 1) love Forbes has for Mike Fox (and what Fox did for him), then 2) his love for UNC, followed by 3) his love and desire for his staff. And then after all that you get way down to ... oh yeah, this is my home and I am too close to retirement.
This was much closer to going sideways than many will probably ever know. Glad it worked out. The baseball family put on the full court press and the staff is going to get a well deserved reward.I know the board doesn’t need me to validate this but Mahler is spot on here. First off, I'd expect it to be more than $75 million because I expect us to make the move in 28 or 29.Certainly, we add immediate value to any conference we join, but if it doesn’t offset the approximately $75 million we’re taking out, that won’t fly. And we still have to repay the financed buyout.
That is just the reality of bigtime college sports these days. If not SC, there would be another school another year. If you want to keep your program among the elite, you need to make a competitive financial commitment to the program. No matter how much anyone loves his school, that person is not going to want to compete with one hand tied behind his back. Everyone wants an even playing field.I know the board doesn’t need me to validate this but Mahler is spot on here. The Holbrook story cuts both ways. I don't think he would recommend a job at lil Carolina.Agreed.
This matches what I had heard, as well. Even though Forbes was a "UNC guy," so was Holbrook when Tanner hired him as an assistant to recruit against us. This whole thing made me very nervous. It would have sucked to see Forbes and the former UNC guys coaching down there. The old saying isn't money talks BS walks for no reason. Can't wait to hear Schnall announced officially.
Wholeheartedly agree. The Holbrook story cuts both ways. I don't think he would recommend a job at lil Carolina.
See…this just seems hyperbolic. South Carolina makes a great offer. And then the ball is in our court to counter and we do so. I don’t think that feels “close”. Forbes didn’t take the job and then walk it back. No midnight hour donor came in and saved the program and the staff. I don’t think he was close to going there at all. I think he would have gone if we did nothing to respond to such a lucrative offer. And I don’t think we were ever going to “not respond”.I know the board doesn’t need me to validate this but Mahler is spot on here. And I’ll take you at your word. And I’ll say thank your for the information you bring to the board. The end. With all due respect, you’re making a lot of assumptions without being in on how this went down.

Obviously Forbes didn’t take the job and then walk it back. But my point is that Coach Forbes was seriously considering taking the job based on what I know. There were many on this board that kept arguing that Forbes would never leave for SC and that he was not even considering it. But that is just not true. He was a lot closer to leaving than most here think.See…this just seems hyperbolic. South Carolina makes a great offer. And then the ball is in our court to counter and we do so. Wouldn’t count on that. Lots of influential people made this hire. He will be given every chance to win.If 2026 goes as bad as predicted, he likely has just five more months.
Is there something in particular you’ve read that you vehemently disagree with? It’s interesting to read the posts by people who “know” something on threads with no evidence aside from “trust me.” This has to be some sort of self validation dopamine rush.
Nobody would care what anybody thought if we were winning. That’s just a fact. Start winning and people find a way to not feel embarrassed over anything. Not at all. I don’t know what I don’t know but one thing I do know is that Newmark, Chancellor Roberts and Bubba (along with some of their key minions) spent a substantial amount of time visiting with former baseball players and supporters during the weekend Super Regional. So glad things have worked out and the baseball program is getting deserved support. Now we need more season ticket holders and attendees at games to help defray the costs of support. With all due respect, you’re making a lot of assumptions without being in on how this went down.

Those meetings were instrumental in getting this done. A couple of former players went to great lengths to make it happen. I hope the story gets told when the time is right.I don’t know what I don’t know but one thing I do know is that Newmark, Chancellor Roberts and Bubba (along with some of their key minions) spent a substantial amount of time visiting with former baseball players and supporters during the weekend Super Regional. Selfishly I'd love to see more high school recruits develop on the offensive side. Not saying we should stop taking and hitting on these less heralded transfers but it is interesting how we have an elite pitching staff built almost entirely out of high school recruits yet most of the offense comes from transfers.Bringing things back to "what happens from here" a bit. With regard to NIL, the first priority is to retain key talent - our staff has done a PHENOMENAL job of developing high school arms and the next step is to retain those pitchers until they leave via MLB draft. And second thing our staff has done is work the portal in a way that upgrades talent/addresses gaps without disrupting team culture. Just look at Clemson this year for an example of how portal success doesn't always equal team success. Assuming there is more financial backing behind the program, let's hope the staff keeps cooking because Carolina's level of consistency the past few years is not too common.
Agreed. We've had success (see Honeycutt, Stevenson, Gallaher) but not as prevalent as the pitching.Selfishly I'd love to see more high school recruits develop on the offensive side. Twitter? Seems they’d rather announce it on a platform where OnlyFans go.Interesting…I heard he had negotiated a deal where he reports directly to JorDon HudSon via the platform formerly known as twitter.
Out of curiosity, how does the payout work for the CWS?It costs a lot to maintain successful programs. In 2024-25, baseball coaching staff/support staff salaries/bonuses totaled $2.5 million. Ticket and licensing revenue for baseball was $1.9 million. Those are the two main revenue drivers beyond contributions. Then you have additional expenses such as travel ($575k), equipment ($500k), facilities ($430k), etc, that just build up.
I do know Greg has said the longer we stay-the more money we loseOut of curiosity, how does the payout work for the CWS?
what?? I think you're getting the CWS confused with the ACCI do know Greg has said the longer we stay-the more money we lose
I don’t see it changing…and I understand it. Projecting pitching from HS to your first year in college is a lot easier than trying to decide if a hitter will be able to adjust to college pitching and contribute in year one. Because, let’s be honest, if they don’t contribute as freshmen they may hit the portal. It is just so much easier to get a kid that has proven he can hit college pitching (even at the community college level in Iowa).Agreed. We've had success (see Honeycutt, Stevenson, Gallaher) but not as prevalent as the pitching.
It appears that almost every eligible player will transfer from CCU to USC. The real question is whether the talent level on last year’s CCU team could actually compete in the SEC. I have my doubts.Man. Did not see Schnall to SCar. South Carolina did a good job keeping that on the down low.
No, they didn’t. It was very in the open. He’s who everyone was predicting they would hire. They openly reported they interviewed him 3 different times last week, including one with the USC President.Man. Did not see Schnall to SCar. South Carolina did a good job keeping that on the down low.
SC fans spent all year trashing coastal for not being in a major conference and are now celebrating the entire staff and roster coming to Columbia. Fandom is very funnyIt appears that almost every eligible player will transfer from CCU to USC. Same. I'm under oath not to say anything, but Mahler has been all over this. This was about as close to the Beamer / UNC football deal with Baddour many years ago as it could've been. Thrilled some folks stepped up and that Forbes, his staff, and returning players will be in Chapel Hill and not Columbia next year.I know the board doesn’t need me to validate this but Mahler is spot on here. Forbes was most definitely considering this move and I was worried that he might leave. I agree. Coastal played poorly down the stretch, and SC was just a bad baseball team. Next year's Coastal (which is now SC) would struggle to win consistently in the SEC week in/week out. They hould be a lot more competitive...especially if they can combine their rosters. I'd be surprised if they're top half of the SEC next year if it's just a combined Coastal/SC roster without any extra portal help, though. It appears that almost every eligible player will transfer from CCU to USC. I’ll stop when we stop hiring 70+ year old coaches40K from what we spent on football last season should not be missed. I will stop calling the football program a clown show when the 73 year old coach stops skipping letterman events to watch his 24 ? Year old girlfriend cheer ! Deal .
probably ? Look take 400 K fron BB
