Thought those of you that can remember an old clip from 1975,Kentucky vs Tennessee..Damn I miss those days..This team would eventually beat an undefeated Indiana team in the Mideast Regional Final and go all the way to the final game before losing to UCLA,in John Wooden's final game..enjoy

They would show these games on tape delay on saturday night and we would stay up late and watch them. While watching the sports they would say "anyone who is watching the game" please turn away from your set while we flash the score. I remember peeking and seeing the score and hoping the whole game that I was wrong... unfortunately what I saw was correct. Ernie and Bernie were no joke those guys could play. The little point guard UT had was a kentucky kid that we did not recruit. I think he is a high school coach now. He was a big factor in this game as well.

speaking of kentucky kids we didnt recruit. It seems Vandy would come up and get these shooters like Phil Cox and Barry Goheen and light us up with them. Used to make me so angry that we didnt get those kids.

Remember that game with Indiana like it was yesterday. I replayed that game with my homemade goal and tennis ball in my room over and over lol. I was 15 at the time. Thanks for sharing!
We were all sitting around Stovers Sinclair station in Marrowbone watching that game

Indiana VS UK round two was a slugfest. Most physical game I have witnessed . Joe really had them ready. We should have won it all but Wooden played the retirement card (wish he had held out for one more year)

That is soo true. The refs gift wrapped that game for them. Really UL was better than UCLA that year and could have been the dream game in the championship game 8 years early had Terry Howard not missed those free throws. Something like a 98% ft shooter and he missed in the final four to help UCLA preserve the win. I am not one to believe in referee conspiracies but they definitely lent a hand to the UCLA cause that night against us. I heard that Kevin Grevy still blames the refs. I think we were up 7 (which was a ton back then prior to the 3 point shot and no shot clock) with just a few minutes to go and we had several phantom calls that cost us the game. They were not going to let the legend Wooten out with a loss.. now way..

You can see the famous 1-3-1 Zone that Joe B loved using and was Coach Cal's undoing in the 2010 NCAA Tournament game against WVU.

I LOVED watching Kevin Grevey play when I was a kid!! He was tough as nails and could make shots anywhere on the floor!!

The IU game in the Elite 8 is biggest Non-Title win in my lifetime!!! LOVE this team!! It CRUSHED me when we lost to UCLA in the Final Game.

The 1-3-1 is still an awesome defense. The 3 point shot has definitely led to its demise to some extent. It exposes the corners and the elbow extended but its an effective defense even today.

I loved that little shuffle cut that Joe B used to run. In a way its the precursor to the dribble drive. The players then used to have to keep their hand on top of the ball something that NONE of the players do today. This gives an advantage to faster players when they can "carry" the ball like they do today. Not complaining at all, its just they have changed the rules for sure. Some of the fouls they called then they never call now.. of course officiating was 10 times better then and more consitent. Its as bad as Ive ever seen it across the board now.

What alot of people don't realize is we were a whisker's hair of playing UL in the Championship that year

a couple Terry Howard free throws away.. That cardinal team was good that would have been a heck of a game.

I was trying to remember his name and if I recall,he hadn't missed a free throw all year.

100% correct. I saw him about 15 years ago and he was a sales rep for a company here in Louisville. I was told to never bring it up around him as it still kills him to this day.

I was speaking with the father of a potential student shortly after moving to SEKY from Nashville. I was not yet a UK fan but I had followed Vandy for many years. He told me he liked Vanderbilt because he liked to see Kentucky kids play basketball. They did recruit well from the bluegrass..

Nothing like a southpaw deep in the corner. If they had a three point shot back then :flushed: .

I think that was Rodney Woods out of Lone Jack (Bell County ) . Rodney wanted to go to UK but Coach Rupp recruited Ronnie Lyons over him. They both averaged about the same but if Woods had played in Rupps system he would have been something else. Probably has carpal tunnel from standing 30 feet out bouncing the ball for two minutes before attempting to run a play. HATED Mears and Stu Aberdeen

I remember those days. Mears built that entire ****-show circus with one objective: BEAT KENTUCKY, then collapse. Want to know why they've never been to the Final Four, or done much of anything else in March? That's why. There's no solid foundation there, just an insane obsession with beating us. Pi** on them.

That was before Thompson-Boling. That was Stokely Athletic Center, which was just as bad if not worse!

Heck, Ray Mears even brought out Unicycle riders and Jugglers when UK came to town. Felt like Barnum & Bailey Circus.[eyeroll]

Tennessee shot 23 free throws, Kentucky 6. Some things are timeless. heh

King with 24 and 20, was every bit the man.

Other thing I notice is the defense. Man to man, not much change from then to now. Zone is totally different. It's packed way in - looks odd how they're seemingly content to give someone an 18 foot shot. Of course, without the 3, it only made sense to give up longer shots rather than shorter ones. Just looks funny.....

Sorry I didn't see this Post before I put mine up.

Rodney Woods is the coach at Wayne Co. HS and has been for a while now. He is one of the best coaches in the state.

I HATE the Vols, but Rodney Woods was a heck of a PG. Loved how they introduced him as being from "4 Mile KY", which is in Bell Co. He went to Lone Jack HS.
The reason the area was called four Mile is that it is exactly four miles from the Cumberland Ford (bend in the Cumberland River, Pineville). Cumberland Ford is overlooked by Breastwork Hill and was a strategic cannon emplacement during the civil war. SORRY , history addict:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
