See Mississippi State-UAB 2014. Not saying this is gonna be that type of year, but sometimes you gotta give your team a chance to improve from week one.

I don’t believe the games are comparable. Went to both. Our offense was very dominant in 2014 in that game. We had a bunch of big plays against us in that game in our secondary. Today our offense was not dominant. They could have been but didn’t take that step forward. The defense was putrid the whole game getting gashed in the ground over and over again and losing guys in coverage all over the field. Not even the same types of games.

While I get the surface comparison in regards to not panicking, it is a different situation. Still, it makes one think that it may not be that bad. Especially after looking at the 5 worst performances in the SEC and NOT being one of those.

Dak completed less than 50% of his passes in that game and the difference in total offense between that game and yesterday was less than 20 yards. But hey if you want to nitpick the heck out of things to fit your narrative then go right ahead. But the comparison is pretty valid and the games are pretty similar.

You cannot expect a 2014 type season, of course, but it is indeed too soon to start planning a funeral for the season. When we start SEC play, I think Don's quote holds: I don't think anybody knows what's about to take this field.

I'm expecting the worst, but I'm happy to be wrong and enjoy an unexpected win here and there.

Some of you need to stop letting your hatred for Moorhead blind your judgement ment. To say the offense wasn’t dominant is just 17ing stupid. Defense was pure **** but to say the wasn’t dominant takes a special kind of idiot

I really count it as 3 “key” defensive starters/co-starters suspended

Lee Autry DE
Willie Gay LB
Marcus Murphy DB ( co-starter because he was listed as equal to Landrew.

That is a big loss in available starters, and we still don’t know the whole 10, so there could be some solid backups suspended. Pure selfishness by them has affected the whole team.

Sunshine pumpers?

So now merely pointing out that all hope should not be abandoned after the first game of the season is "pumping sunshine?" Our defense played horribly yesterday. All the OP said was, this has happened before and we still came out okay. I will agree there was little to nothing about our defense's performance yesterday to inspire confidence, or even hope, but it was just one game, and we have seen at least some of those same guys make the tackles they were missing yesterday. Let's see if the coaches can light fires under some asses this week and get them to put a little more effort into completing tackles.

I am just glad we got out of there without (hopefully) serious injury and got the W. Was a dangerous game away from home against a rising coach with a very good quarterback.

Scored 47 that day and owned the the 2nd and Third quarters. They also got a trash touchdown at the end to make it closer. We only had a bad 1st quarter.

What I was seeing yesterday was a defense that couldn’t stop the off tackle run all day and losing guys in coverage all over the place. We also couldn’t put the game with with our offense in the fourth quarter stalling and punting and and having to get a late field goal.

I’m not saying we are the worst team in sec but some on here still think we might be in the top quarter of the conference.

Those three guys didn’t make our defense look that bad. I promise you. Too much blame being put on 3 players being suspended.

One thing thats for sure. We should be happy with Jomo and Tommy touchdown. We could have Luke and Corral.

Gonna disagree.

Reason 1 —depth.
Reason 2 —starters.
Reason 3 —rotations.

We missed all 3 due to suspensions.

Marcus Murphy can be another J. Abrams

Gay is probably our fastest linebacker side to side.

Autry has not quickness, so containment could have been better. Every breakdown seemed to be to the left of their offense, right side of our defense.

Again, we don’t know if 2 or 3 more suspended players may have been very good 2nd string defensive players.

Maybe not THAT bad, but Gay and Autry would have made a difference. Willie is a playmaker, Leo is not. A couple more plays on defense, maybe on that 99 yard drive and the game would have felt different.

Truth is, a single player staying with his assignment and they are in 3rd and 10 from the 1 on that last TD drive. There were a number of what I consider nice play calls by Napier in that 4th qtr that we just didn't handle. It'll be a good tape to teach from and it's a W. Moving on.

Also there was a clear hold on the 2nd first down producing play of that drive. Not complaining, we got a lot of calls, but they let a ton of holds go in that game.

This was Week 1 without literally almost half of our two deep from last year’s defense. Anyone who wasn’t expecting some struggles early on is being delusional. We’ve got some issues to work out but there’s no reason to think we can’t play better than yesterday as the season goes on.

His “Joe isn’t as advertised” is just another way of saying they are gullible. That the same transition the previous coach went through, this one wouldn’t have. That coach speak on a runway should be taken literally and have a conniption if it doesn’t come true.

Hell, a few of them gambled money away last season based off their preseason arrogance.

Same as Coach34.

Nope not at all. I’ve been skeptical of Moorhead being successful here with his scheme and coaching from the beginning. Our athletic director was the one who might have been gullible.

We have 8’wins in our pocket even if we don’t improve from yesterday. However, we will improve from yesterday. How much? Who knows. I do know our defense will be better with gay, autry, Murphy playing. Our offense will also improve from week to week as Stevens gets more comfortable with his receivers. We should all be thanking the football gods for our schedule this year. 8 wins in our pocket with a chance at 9. Can’t really ask for more than that.
