So I'm an alumnus ('93), but have been following the Bulldogs since my family moved to Starkville in 1985. Watching this season has been tough, because our blowouts have mostly been late second half affairs. I got to thinking about that, and realized it is from years and years of of Felker, Sherrill, and Croom where we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. With Mullen, save for last season (which was a horrible reminder of the Mid 80;s), we've won our fair share of close games.

So for Middle Age to older crowd, has that feeling gone away for you guys, and if so what made you get over the hump?

If being a Bulldog fan has taught me anything, it’s that I will never feel safe with any lead. We have never been a come from behind team much either. So eternal pessimism reigns in the hearts of MSU fans everywhere. Welcome to Sixpack!

If you were going to shorten it, the correct way is "alum", not "alumn". It'll add the i every time.

To answer your question, yeah, I'm still not comfortable with any sort of lead, thinking we'll find some way to mess things up. Look at the LSU game in 2014 ... we almost lost that one because we had what we though was a comfortable lead and then almost blew it by taking our foot off the gas. And look what happened to A&M early this year with UCLA ... reminded me of us, at least in the past.

With Mullen's teams, you know who is going to win by the end of the first quarter.
We never give up big leads and we never come from behind. As of a couple years ago, whoever has the halftime lead won the game in every single game of the Mullen era except one.

Ebadently, it's a 4 quarter game. It's important to know that.

This is what I love about the pack. I learn new words almost on a daily basis. When my wife complains, I always tell her I'm expanding my vocabularity*.

After DM's 3d or 4th year when he consistently beat the less talented teams (La Tech, Memphis, USM, etc) I finally got to the point of not worrying about them. I expected us to pull it out regardless of the first half score. SEC teams (and last season) are a different story.

Class of 1984, former Reflector sports editor. My first two MSU coaches were Bob Tyler and Emory Bellard (Bellard being the coach while I was editor). Before attending I watched plenty of games where Tyler had the team ready but some sort of unexpected turn ending up with the Dogs losing. In the end the record was purged by probation and vacating wins.

The first year of Bellard (also my first year), although being 3-8 gave some hope. It took until after the blowout by USM in 1980 for them to get it together and sweep Murderer's Row (including the 6-3 win over No. 1 Bama).

Ever since that point, though,, it's been nothing but ups and downs. Felker's hope then crash. Jackie bringing us several great years and a spot in the SEC Championship. Croom bringing more hope but again falling.

State has always been a great school but very up and down as it came to athletics, which in the South is the most noteworthy image to the world. Having to deal with Rebel and Tide teams of high talent helped to create that.

I have always thought that Dan has brought a swagger to the program that I have never seen in what is now almost 50 years of following the Dogs (I think Jackie would be the second). I doubt he will never leave on his own because he sees this doubting attitude in the fandom and knows he can build success in the team and higher pride in MSU alumnae by following his plan.

I still wait during each game for something to happen bad to the Dogs. I think this is what is making it better for Dan and what he has accomplished, but it will still take a little more time (and wins against teams MSU is supposed to lose to) to let me feel that any lead is solid until the final horn. Then I can take a breath and relax. It will be fun when I can get the attitude of my high-school classmate who went to Bana.

It’s not just you. I enter every fourth quarter figuring up in my head exactly how the opposing team can come back and win... (all they have to do get three TD’s and two-point conversions, then get the onside kick....) 2014 LSU would’ve been the DEATH of me had they connected on that last pass. I TOTALLY expected them to, and I’d bet most of y’all did, too.

Just waaaay too much experience with it.
