I know my opinion doesn't really count for anything, but it doesn't seem to go with the style of the rest of the stadium at all. It also seems kind of weird to have a small section of upper deck seats when you have so much open space closer to the field. I think a small section on the south side is a good idea, though.

Further, I say all of this realizing how ugly and disjointed Vaught-Hemingway has become. We need to make our whole stadium look like the south endzone and tear down that God-awful Rebel club on the east side.

That's pretty close to the size I envisioned. The empty areas to the right and the left have me curious. From the way it is drawn, it looks like it sets itself up to be expanded again should the situation arise. I wonder what the empty unfinished areas would look like in real life. I'd love to see a more detailed (w/ color) version of that.

The truss (arch) could be a support for the scoreboard on that end, could also be the architecture which supports the upper deck. Similar to what is common with bridges like this.

I think the truss is probably both functional and aesthetic.

the NEZ sketch just has 2 mirror images of the East side. The SEZ sketch has the East side shown as the west side.

I say all that to further the idea that these are extremely initial.

And thanks to ole miss fans for the NEZ and SEZ. I didn't even have to think about how to abbreviate.

Initial reax:

- Like the arch - think it looks good. Is that a covered area coming out from the arch or more seating going up (the dark part)?

- Not crazy about the SEZ's 'wall' in front. Looks too high.

- As part of the expansion/renovation, I'd love to see them do something about the ugly exposed ramps on the West Side. They look incomplete (actually, they are incomplete since they were trying to save money when they built the upper deck on the West Side) and unstable and generally detract from the stadium's appearance.

- The NEZ reminds of Ohio State's endzone they added so as not to disturb the "Horseshoe" - hope MSU makes it connect to the sideline seating.

- Give 'til it hurts!

The NEZ is a bit modern, but I still like it. Very similar to a lot of soccer stadiums/olympic stadiums. The empty spaces on the sides dont bother me at all, especially if it is some sort of concourse. It looks completely enclosed, and the back walls would be a great place for banners, etc.

The SEZ looks like it was done in about 5 minutes, but I like the idea. I do not think it should be rounded, but angular, to match up with the M club. I think the base of it should be parallel to the endzone all the way across and run straight up to about 8 feet below the windows flush with the M-club, then flush with the supports of the jumbotron.

I think it will take a lot of work and money to make that happen and I'm not sure our AD wants to or has the money or even if its a priority to make it happen.
LT should have insisted on it happening. I just think stadiums that are the same on all sides look a hell of a lot better.

I think the MCLUB EZ seating shouldn't be rounded off but maybe a foot or two below field level and run parallel to the EZ baseline. I'm thinking kinda like Auburn's is with maybe a brick finish. We need our fans to be as close to the field as possible. We don't need a 10 foot white wall with an enormous tunnel. I do love the tunnel idea for us to run through.

Looks to me like about 13,000 new seats which would bring us to a 68,052 capacity. We might was well get 70,000 even and add the extra 1,948 seats.

I'm not sure about that. But, given Scott Stricklin's comments about "we need to start thinking toward 75,000", I think this was a nod to that notion.

The gaps you see are for skydeck type tickets, which they will also sell. Those also serve as a way to get from one side of the stadium to the other without exiting the stadium. The north end-zone will be suites and club level and also some field level seats similar to the Cowboys stadium.

As for the West side, it will be re-done to mirror the East side. That will be handled upon completion of the North End Zone.

i agree.

i'm not a fan of these preliminary sketches. this is a classic case of someone trying to do too much and the result is a just bad. the really good stadiums in football and yes, futball arenas - have a unified presence. i realize we'll never have a michigan stadium... but look at what alabama is doing with bryant-denny - i know they have a ton more money to throw at it - but at least the design has a singular design goal. edited to remove link... google it!

it hurts to know that i probably graduated with the person doing this. btw, i had the same arguement about east addition years ago - they never thought about how to close the north endzone - and now we'll probably get something like this.

Considering we're at 55,052 right now that makes each side consisting of about 26,000 seats. If your saying it looks like 75,000 seats then the expansion would be 20,000 new seats and that new seating doesn't look anywhere near that. The bigger EZ seating is about half the size of the East and West side currently IF that and the MClub EZ seats is only 2-3,000 max. I think the big EZ is about 10,000 and the MClub EZ about 3,000 which brings me to a total of 13,000 seats. Standing room only brings it to 70-72,000 I'm sure. Maybe 74K like you said.

Colossal failure with the south endzone. I'd rate the north as average.

NEZ.....good idea but do need to fill in open space. That would make the stadium a little more symmetrical. Open space makes it very obvious there are three different pieces.

On the SEZ......that looks terrible. With the Seal Building, no need to enclose it fully. Just add a section or two, at approximately 45 degrees off the east and west sides. That would fill in the gap on that end. Which gives the feeling of an enclosed stadium and keeps the character of the Seal Building.

Looks like we added on something generic, that could be added onto any stadium like ours. It looks out of place, and is over done.

Something to do with the arch I guess, gives it an NFL stadium feel, and I mean that in the generic soulless (but "modern") this-could-be-anywhere kind of way.

Now THAT'S a tough seat to see the game.

Watching Auburn games it almost looks as though their feet sit about a foot below the field so when they yell they are yelling right onto the field and the fans are right on top of you, but I doubt they really are a little below field level as that would make it really hard to see.
