I think we had a similar thread on this recently but I'm not sure.

What's everyone's best guess on average football attendance in the SEC next year? 75% of capacity?

Will they sell masks at the concession stands?

I think this thing is gonna change a lot of people's thinking about attending large sporting events.

Without a vaccine in the fall, attendance will be in the tank...
Universities and the SEC may weigh the costs and decide it's not worth it having a season.

This has all the makings of the SixPackPessium Index saying we'll be fine by football season, but the SPP Index has remained in oversold territory for quite some time now. Maybe Sawyer Robertson committing can put a bottom in****

I'm hoping it happens in some form, even if it's shortened to only conference games. However, I'm not ready to buy on this one.

I personally think they will play the games AT MINIMUM with players being tested for COVID-19 to clear them for play and possibly no fans or limited attendance during the games. Football is too much of a cash cow for the schools and the bulk of the revenue comes from TV viewing anyway. They will work something out.

It would be bad *** if they said ...no one over 60 or under 18. Then add beer.

we have those tests that will show results in 5-15min. Test players the morning before the game.

Is it possible to scan everyone's temperature upon stadium entry?

0%. It will be canceled unless a therapeutic is super effective and can be mass produced by then.

There should be plenty of the quick tests by then that checking players could happen.

Not sure how they'd handle the crowds. Lines just to get in the stadium have people practically standing on top of one another. Social distancing at tailgates is impossible.

I’m sure they want fans in attendance but too much money is made off TV. If they can play games without fans, then I think they will.

I think if we play the games and they allow the crowds, attendance will will still be relatively good. Probably about what it was last year with Moorhead.

I figured the excitement of the pirate will bring some in that would offset the concerns for the virus.

Basically Moorhead was the equivalent of a pandamic

If I had to guess though, I would say they will be played without fans

You mean like the TV revenue from the NCAA tournament?

Had COVID-19 hit us in August there would 100% have been no football this Fall. Even the experts say we will be in a totally different position with handling things if it comes back later this year.

I'm afraid you're right. A big clue was the Olympics being postponed. It was planned to start just 36 days before college football. I don't think people realize how close we are to losing the season.

That may very well be true. But it will only be true if there are very elaborate measures in place to ensure both player and public safety from the virus. TV ratings won’t have a damn thing to do with it....there will never be a discussion as to how many cases of COVID-19 transmission are acceptable at a football game to justify the TV revenue.

I've already said there is no guarantee that fans will be at the game but it should be pretty easy by that time to test players and clear them to play. Heck, they are talking 5 minute tests now. TV viewing with accompanying revenue doesn't require fans in the stands although it will be a bit weird at first.

We will have the best football attendance in our history this year. If football doesn't happen I will turn into one of the hoarders and stock up on beans, bullets, and semi automatic rifles because the purge is coming. I don't think people that suggest we won't have football season know what that suggests about what the state of our country will be at that time.

And a related question, what has anyone heard about what players are doing to stay in shape?

I don't even know whether the players went home or stayed in Starkville. I'm assuming the training facilities are closed, so what are the players doing wherever they are? It's not just a simple matter of going to the gym these days. Could be a rude awakening at a lot of colleges if the football season goes forward and a bunch of couch potatoes show up for training camp.

Yes, and administering 200+ COVID-19 tests in the locker rooms before each game and playing a full schedule with no fans in attendance would certainly qualify as “elaborate measures”. The latter of which will take quite a bit away from the college football experience, even when watching on TV.

I have said for years that future football games won't be played in a stadium, they will be played in a TV studio. I think this will accelerate that.

Football pays for everything else at MSU.... no Football this fall would be financial disaster for MSU Athletics and Starkville....it would also mean that all MSU course work would be online this fall.... Starkville would become West Point.

This thought, which I had also, scares the **** out of me. Career endangering to everyone I've been on the road with the last couple of years that make big outdoor events happen, particularly in temporary structures. Hopefully we are both wrong.

I'm slow to renew on tickets this year I know. Just too much volatility in my life as a whole. Especially when the home schedule sucks and I already hope to be at the Egg Bowl and LSU. That puts me at ~ 3 SEC home games. And all that is dependent on a now very unsure work schedule not getting in the way.
