It’s honestly a big reason ESL is held back with national rankings. If the teams they played in the conference were even a bit better I think ESL would go up in rankings. Just need one or two top 50 teams in the state.
The edwardsville or ofallon game used to be a decent one. All of the swc schools are going through recent coaching changes and are just awful.
They could play in a Missouri conference if they had such things; it's all districts now so that can't happen. Mt. Carmel (in southern IL) played in an Indiana conference for a long time. The only rule from Illinois is that a team has to play at least one in-state opponent in the regular season.
EStL needs to go independent!!! Play whom they want and be the national power they can be!~ They just have to get disciplined... Thats the only thing stopping the Flyers from winning a championship every year!~
I don't see independence as feasible for ESL. Sure they can schedule their 3 national games, but who are they going to play in week 6 when everyone is in the middle of their conference schedules?
I wish somehow theres an auto-delete function for any post suggesting ESL should go independent.
And the whole country plays in conferenses or districts at some point in their schedules. While ESL raises funds for a trip or two per year I don't think they could swing paying for 4-5 national games on the road.
Do you know how many alums want the Flyers to go independent? And do you know how many well off alums would support 4 or 5 out of state away games? Surely you're not saying that 5 or 6 Illinois teams wouldn't love games against EStL?
Not nearly enough alumni to support a national schedule on a yearly basis. I can think of maybe 10ish teams in IL that would voluntarily play ESL and they wouldn't be willing to do it every year.
NO ONE is willing to pay that kind of money for some keyboard warriors to have some sort of satisfaction. ESL is content with what is happening.
Non of those teams are available weeks 4 through 8 and in most cases week 9 as well.
Go look at how many illinois teams have signed up to come play at esl the past 10 years. Maybe 1 or 2.
Come on now, of all people on this board, AlabamaTimberwolf has the most connections in the ESL community!
In addition, I can't imagine their conference allowing them to go independent in football yet remain in the conference in all other sports. ESL needs the conference for all the other sports.
I think, with their travel budget, we just go ahead and get 'em on in one of them there Chicago leagues... I didn't say Catholic, don't get yer britches all twisted, CCL elite men...
