I got some colleagues who are FSU alumni/boosters and that buyout could of been 75m . They wanted his butt gone asap . They have been embarrassing the last few years.

Here we go.

Carousel season taking off

Getting bumped out of playoffs by bama really put a cloud over that program that they haven’t been able to shake.

Cue the Nick Saban, Urban Meyer…Will Stein talk.

Our coordinators are going to get talked about as well maybe not for FSU or big gig but all the staffing turnover…our guys will be sought…

You’re getting awfully offended by my remark.
lol. I’ll type slow so you can follow along this time. If you think it’s “one” comment, you’re even dumber than I thought. It’s your all day every day stupidity.

This thread is about Mike Norvell (football) and some of you nutjobs can’t leave it alone. Truly pathetic.

I’m starting to wonder if coaches with fat buyout clauses are tanking on purpose just to cash in that lottery ticket. Apparently Norvell’s gonna walk away with a $50 million parting gift. Stoops must be jealous.

I wonder if there’s ever gonna be a breaking point where universities have been burned enough times to finally realize they need to show more caution with handing out these insanely generous contracts.

We need to just lock our guys down. Nobody should take Stein away from us. Let’s see how good J Batt is at locking down and hiring coaches and raising funds.

Well deserved
Agreed. But, when you look at his record there, after the first 2 years it looked like they finally found the right guy. Coaching is hard. Good coaches fail and a couple of exceptional years do not mean longevity is guaranteed. When you see the coaches that string together long successful careers, or see a GOAT like Saban, it should be recognized as real achievement.

Year-by-Year Record at FSU
    • 2020: 3–6 (2–5 ACC)
    • 2021: 5–7 (4–4 ACC)
    • 2022: 10–3 (5–3 ACC, Cheez-It Bowl win)
    • 2023: 13–1 (8–0 ACC, ACC Champions, Orange Bowl appearance)
    • 2024: 2–10 (1–7 ACC)
    • 2025: 5–7 (2–6 ACC)
    • 2026: 3–5 (1–4 ACC — fired mid-season) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Interesting theory. You're already a millionaire several times over and you can either 1. Grind out in the college football/NIL landscape for another 5 years, and still maybe get fired or 2. Get paid $50 mil to relax by your mansion pool for the next 5 years... and maybe go get another job on the side.

Ill tell yah, I bet these coaches arent too upset to be let go. Imagine any of our employers saying "ill pay you handsomely, to the point you could just retire all together, if you stop coming into work". Lol.

That’s true, it’s a risk but it’s one I believe in for Stein.

I agree. Other programs are going to force our hand here but you cant let the guy walk over money after this season.

I agree with you I think its a good gamble. In this modern nil era, there are only a handful of guys that look like they have annual team building figured out, a large part of which is being able to change their scheme to match personnel. Stein is one of those guys.

Stein really seems to be the coach you throw money at. He has so much more potential on the recruiting trail and it's paying off already. He's got all these guys buying in. That's not on accident or likely a fluke.

The only reservation I would have about paying him a $100mil contract right now, is that the school must ALSO fund the football team accordingly. You can't pay Stein top money and then turn around and give him just a modest team NIL salary to work with. They must go hand in hand.

Difference is Norvell will get another job and have a contract offset (assuming he wants another gig). It’s how Franklin went from being owed like $50mil from Penn St to $5mil. Mitch stupidly didn’t put that in Stoops contract (which was unheard of). But, not sure Stoops will get another decent paying job.

Not sure anyone is going to lock him down with a 100m dollar contract over one season as good as it has been.

Give Stein a huge incentive based contract. That needs to be the future for coaches.

If Pope is fired after this year, he will be the highest buyout ever paid for a bball coach. Stoops is the 4th highest paid football coach.

Thanks Mitch!!

rick64, you win the internet today. This is the funniest thing I have seen this week. The look on the school board members is priceless and the Brian Kelly part is pure gold. By the way, if your username reflects your name and birth year, that would make me rick63.
