Florida never considered Hugh Freeze (link)

Yea, because a Florida site would have no motivation to suggest otherwise**

Foley's timeline on the McElwain stuff is accurate there.

He just failed to mention that the Freeze discussions all went down BEFORE they even played Florida State. Pursuit of McElwain started that Sunday.

I don't know the exact figures, but I do believe Freeze listened, and I know for a fact Florida was trying to get him to come in for a day visit the week of the Egg Bowl.

It doesn't really matter. I don't think Freeze staying is some sort of recognition that Ole Miss is a better job than Florida. It's just that Freeze is from Mississippi, and we're going to pay him well enough to where he isn't going to uproot his family.

For the record, by the time Godfrey reported the "offer", regardless of however it was made to not truly constitute an "offer", Freeze had already decided to stay. That's why Foley immediately came out touting McElwain as his guy publicly. He didn't want to appear that he didn't get his first choice.

For the record, I'm not even sure Freeze was the first choice. He probably wasn't. I'm sure Foley did reach out to McDaniel and some of the others first before getting to Freeze and then eventually McElwain.

It's like going to a bar and saying that the girl you took home was your first choice and the only one you asked to go home with you. While that may technically be true, that ignores the fact that you bought drinks for 4 other girls and made plenty of efforts to try to get the attention of other girls before finding the one that laughed at your crappy jokes enough to give you the go ahead that she was willing to go home with you.

For whatever reason, fans tend to feel like their team is an extension of their own persona. Coaches in that scenario are girlfriends, and we fans want to believe that our girlfriend is loyal to us and that we didn't have to go through a bunch of other girls to end up with this girlfriend.

The only argument to this is Foley traveled to Colorado State without an agreement. That shows Foley is a little crazy.

Hugh got his raise and OM got good press out of it. Win/Win. No one was bamboozled.

Neither side will ever be able to conclusively prove that anything went down. If there were any talks or meetings they wouldn't have been documented ("Hey, can you send me a copy of the minutes from the Foley/Freeze in home visit?!")- it will always be one word versus another.

If Florida wanted Freeze, they would have hired Freeze. The same goes for Mullen, except Mullen has a Heisman candidate QB coming back and Freeze will be breaking in a guy who's not on campus yet. I'd like to believe Mullen loves MSU unconditionally, but Dak is keeping Dan from going anywhere.

I don't believe it goes for Mullen, unless you're talking about Michigan/Harbaugh money. From all indications, the Foley/Gainesville hate on the part of Dan and Megan is real.
Note that I don't apply the same rule to any other individual school.

With all due respect (which is none), you don't "know" ****.

I don't like to play the "source" game, because I'm not big time, but I do have a family member who gets invited to closed practices, meets with Freeze personally a good bit, and was involved in a lot of one on one phone calls with both Freeze and Bjork the week before the Egg Bowl pertaining to this exact subject.

You don't have to believe it, but Godfrey wasn't making it up. Just by the time he reported it, Florida had been told to move on, and they had. Did they "offer" formally? Of course not. No one does until they know they're going to get a yes, but I do know that terms were verbally relayed, and I do know they tried to get Freeze to make a visit to Gainesville.

Whether you want to believe Freeze was the first pursued or not, you can't honestly believe McElwain was the first person Foley contacted or pursued, especially since he didn't use a search firm.

So let's clarify here.

You think Florida offered Freeze?

Do you think Miami or Penn State or Florida or anyone else has offered Mullen in the past several years?

Just want to get your facts straight.
