Loved everything my mother cooked......now my MIL was another story . Woman couldn't boil water without a recipe and then it was still hit and miss .
Oh hell, my MIL came over to cook for us while wife was still at hospital with our daughter. I came home for something we forgot (left in a huge rush several weeks ahead of due date). MIL is in kitchen over a pot. Smells like ***. She says "oh, making you guys a brisket, but could not find your seasonings". I ask what was she missing because I just see black liquid in the pot. She says, "well you're didnt have any liquid smoke".Loved everything my mother cooked......now my MIL was another story . We used to feed the dog leftovers from the table. She would eat all of Mom’s stuff, peas, beans…whatever, EXCEPT the corn bread.
you brought back a horrible memory from my childhood I had repressed.Pear salad.
Canned pear half, mayonnaise, and cheese.
"Croquettes"? Oh, y'all were fancy. I got "salmon patties".Without a doubt it was salmon croquettes.
anything with bell pepper. My dad loved it. I hate it with unbridled passion. It tastes like plastic. I like just about any pepper besides the burn your gut out with a flamethrower hot ones, but bell pepper is disgusting.Without a doubt it was salmon croquettes. Close second. Liver and onions. When I’d walk in from practice and smelled either, I’d head to the neighbors for a bologna and cheese samich
I love me some gizzards, livers, and hearts. Organ meat, yuuuum.Fried chicken gizzards. I guess we were poors back then.
I think that’s the problem. I still love salmon patties, but you need to remove the bones and skin. Season it with some Old Bay and/or Paul Prudhomme’s Seafood Magic. Fine ground salt on the top just before serving."Croquettes"? Oh, y'all were fancy. I got "salmon patties".
We were given pancake syrup when it was put on the tableSalmon croquettes. Lent meal which I absolutely hated.
Sometimes mom would make gravy after frying the salmon. It doesn’t sound good but it was great on biscuits. We were given pancake syrup when it was put on the table
You and my father would have enjoyed a trip to KFC back in the day. Had the "holy trinity" as I recall. He always ordered liver and onions if someone had it when we went out to eat because my mother wouldn't cook it at home (thankfully). He too was a big organ guy, loved them. He didn't pass that gene to either my sister or me.I love me some gizzards, livers, and hearts. Organ meat, yuuuum.
Starkville Cafe does liver and onions on their lunch specials, usually the day I go is the day they do liver because NOBODY in my house will touch it so it's the only time I can get itYou and my father would have enjoyed a trip to KFC back in the day.
