I'd say the demograpics of facebook is definitely moving toward an older crowd
Ahh….Facebook. TC, how lucky we are as a society to live in an age of such enlightenment. Obviously, social media has disproven another old adage of our forefathers: “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

Askew especially looked confused. I don't recall seeing him get penetration during the time I watched the game. Quit watching about 4mins into 2nd half.
MIntz is not a PG either. That alone means this season is already off the rails.
I watched two or three of Askews high school games and I thought he turned the ball over quite a bit. It maybe something he grows out of but we need patience with him and really all of the incoming freshman. The speed of the game is so much faster and they are going against experienced players for the most part.

Which is why I wish Cal would realize that we can't continue this way and win another championship. You have to have veteran players on teams and can't start from scratch every season.

This is where I'll draw my line on Cal. Askew needs less minutes, until he proves he can earn them. If Cal continues to roll him out and we lose because of it, then that likely changes my tune, and would agree that we need to move on.

But remember, Cal DOES roll these guys out because the system calls for it. People wanted Aaron Harrison benched.. hell, people here wanted Jamal Murray benched because of his defense. You do have to play these guys to get them going.

But no, I don't believe Askew is that type of player. He should not have gotten 24 minutes yesterday

I don’t think Cal wanted Hagans to leave. What would you have Cal do to keep him here? These players have so many people pulling them in different directions and filling their heads with grandeur, that it’s getting to the point that you have to have a shrink on staff to keep them level headed.

perfectly said.

Yea, I don't get it. I don't even actually do twitter, facebook, or instagram. If there's something needs read you can always do a quick google search. Maybe not twitter, but I've always viewed instagram and facebook as a way to talk to long distance friends and relatives. I don't get following the everyday thoughts of people.

Honest question.. why do we think Mintz can't be the PG? More so to what @Cawood86 said.. But why?

7 pts, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers.. I mean, that's not a GREAT line, but it's certainly not bad. I will take a 3:1 assist to TO ratio any day..

Mintz should be our starting pointguard, today.
I agree he should be the starting PG. He is a little more slippery than Askew. Neither though has been able to breakdown the defense so far.
Cal's best teams had really good guard play. This team is severely lacking in that area imo.
The biggest problem is the Head ball coach keeps playing Askew no matter what.

But, he still has to start? Agreed? We don't turn away a 3:1 assist to TO ratio..

Cal's teams, dont NEED to have an explosive guard.. Just don't turn it over. Efficient passing, be so-so defensively, communicate.. that's literally the basic requirements.

Then maybe Cal should play the other guy that has played college basketball for 4 years. Wouldn't that be the smart move?

I remember a few months back a video surfaced of Askew getting the ball stolen at least 5 times in one game. I was out on him after that . He just casually dribbles like he’s playing pickup

Totally agree. Mintz should be the starter. No question. Teague like play would be just fine. Teague could get to the rim if he really wanted to, he just didn't have to very often. If Mintz could play like that, UK's offensive problems begin to get better.
Problem is, will Cal let him.

Mintz traded a top 10 team for a garbage team. What was he thinking?

He didn't really have an option. He wasn't going to play for Creighton, which is why I said from the beginning he was not suitable fit at UK.

I’m sorry to tell you but players choose a school for the coach not the school itself. The sad fact is, the eighties and nineties version of college basketball is long gone.

The Older generation knocks the younger generation for venting through social media . The only reason it didn’t happen back in the day is because they didn’t have social media lol

I am so glad there wasn’t social media when I was in HS/college. It would have been the death of me, figuratively speaking. Heck, it might have been literally the death of me the way I use to run my mouth.

A 2-3 or 1-3-1 zone is the easiest defense to teach, you simply guard an area of the floor, you also expend less energy. Granted it is harder to rebound, but nobody is saying become Syracuse. Just use it to change things up.
Cal showed the other day that he learned nothing from the WVU loss in 2010. He has no clue how to attack a zone. Sad. A major college coach too.

Lol you’re tripping dude. Again, nobody brought up race in this thread (besides Frank, and now yourself). I bet you can’t provide a single example of me “injecting and making suggestive comments”. And you’re right, @FrankUnderwood response was not out of thin air. His snowflakery is on display here almost everyday.

You’re probably the old man who sets in a rocking chair in their porch yelling at kids to ”get off my damn lawn” as you choke on one of your 25 pills you have to take daily while also complaining about people living off the welfare state all while living off government funded social security and Medicare. Stop being a drain on society and call it a life.
What planet did you come from............the government funded Social Security you talk about I paid into for 50+ F'ing years............stop being so ignorant..........

And how is it paid into? Taxes. And where does the money you put into it go? Not to you, to others to finance their social security checks. It’s government funded via taxes, just like every other government program (along with bonds, debt, etc.)

Heck, not even the 80's or the 90's.. you have some fans that clearly think we can go back to the 40's and 50's, and just rip off 4 titles with a bunch of instate kids.

The game is too far changed. The talent is going in too many directions. it's harder and harder to win a title. I'm not convinced that we can get a guy to succeed like Cal did. The only draw is our legacy, which sure, is great.. but what's it worth these days? We'll find out in not too long.

Learn how to speak and spell, then after that, learn how to sack the **** up and play basketball at the college level. Soft as Charmin.

WTF ? Do you even have a clue ? Actually he needs more minutes. Let me show you. Soft as Charmin ? You have no GD clue.

Morehead St. 17 minutes - 9 points - 4/5 from the field (1/1 from 3) / 5 reb. / 3 assist / 1 steal

Richmond 15 minutes - 4 points (2/3 from the field) / 6 rebounds (16 reb per 40 min avg.) / 1 steal (only 3 shots 66%)

Kansas - 13 minutes - 0/2 from the field / 2 rebounds / 2 steals (only 2 shots, but made hustle plays)

Georgia Tech - 1 minute, 1 GD minute, I mean I understand, everyone else was absolutely balling out, right ? Which is why we got boat raced by 17 and EVERYONE other than Clarke was SOFT AS CHARMIN. Let's not give a guy who has shown heart in his limited playing time, and can actually rebound and play defense. let the entitled ones keep playing and getting embarrassed. Maybe, just maybe IF Cal played him 15/18 minutes, if might have been different, it sure as hell could not have been worse, I do know that.

So, you tell me, does he need more minutes ? When he gets minutes and time to get in the flow, he produces. He hustles his *** off when he is in the game. But by all means, lets let Boston keep jacking up 20 shoots a game, go 0/22 on his first 22 3s taken, turn the ball over 4/5 times a game, and get beat like a rented mule of defense and shows absolutely 0 hustle and care about winning. Give me heart and hustle over entitlement any effing day. EARNED NOT GIVEN....

And Cal recruits players that fit the style of a zone.

A zone with our length would be deadly.

I think the problem is that Cal only has these guys for one year, if he were to teach them zone he wouldn't have time to teach his man to man concepts. And Cal is much more comfortable teaching man.

Or, and I'm not making this point only saying it's a possibility, what other fans say is correct, Cal is a recruiter and motivator but not an Xs and Os guy. When you look at the offense and defense he runs....

What is the draw of Kansas, Duke (don't say academics), Gonzaga (before Few built it)? Our draw is just as impressive as any of those. The problem is our coach is focused on things that don't necessarily translate to wins. And the pitch he uses to recruit kids contributes to them not staying around very long.

Hard to develop the delusional. Kid isn't even close to contributing much as this level, doesn't even have a position. We are a magnet for these types of kids.

What are you basing that on ? When he plays significant minutes, he actually produces, when he plays limited minutes and doesn't get a chance to get into the flow of the game, it is tough to judge. But one thing is common, when he is in, he gives EFFORT, and that is what I am looking for. results will come if a player is given a chance and said players give effort. Funny, everyone keeps yelling for Allen, but Fletcher in his limited minutes has shown a hell of a lot more than Allen in every faze of the game, EVERY, including hustle and defense.

I mean Kansas recruiting is in shambles. IDK if they have much draw these days. Duke? Paying players. There's also that "prestigous" side of Duke that is somehow an allure, it's also America's team. UCLA and UNC? Still struggling.

Gonzaga.. I don't know. Lack of other west coast recruiting rivals? Maybe one of the top3 coaches in the game? That one I can't answer.

I'm guessing when you get to social security age you're going to turn down the drain on society check.
