At least the most difficult.
That is insane.
He didn't. He bobbled the catch and had to take an awkward dribbleMaybe even more amazing than the pass is the fact the player receiving the pass actually looks like he was expecting to receive it.
It was in the 1973 Final Four game vs. Memphis State in St. Louis. Providence lost, then Memphis State lost to UCLA in the finals. That really was amazing. I wonder what game was this pass was made?
Ernie D wasn't close to Pistol Pete in terms of an overall player.A great college player who was a smaller version of Pistol Pete Maravich.
Was at that game in St. Louis. If Barnes didn't foul out, PC would have been in the finals. Memphis just too big. Indiana/UCLA was a good semifinal also.It was in the 1973 Final Four game vs. Memphis State in St. Louis. Providence lost, then Memphis State lost to UCLA in the finals.
Barnes sprained his knee in the first half and missed most of the game. He tried to play in the 2nd half but was hobbling and ineffective. Was at that game in St. Louis. If Barnes didn't foul out, PC would have been in the finals. Memphis just too big. Indiana/UCLA was a good semifinal also.
A great pass because it was completed, but probably not a great decision because two defenders were right there. A great college player, but Maravich was the best college passer I've ever seen. I remember seeing at the Garden when he got a rebound and threw a perfect 80+ bounce pass for a layup, and he threw great behind the back passes with both hands also.At least the most difficult.
John Somogyi, my high school coach, once told us that Ernie D dribbled a ball to and from high school every day. He told us that if we wanted to become great ball handlers, this is something we should do. Needless to say, I didnt follow that advice and hence, my ball handling skills were subpar, at best. Ok, my flashback of the day.
I read somewhere that the player who caught the pass was Kevin Stacom - who I believe had a cup of coffee with the Celtics. Cold you imagine if he missed the layup?..oh boy...lolMaybe even more amazing than the pass is the fact the player receiving the pass actually looks like he was expecting to receive it.
More than a cup of coffee. He was there 4 years, defensive stopper. Earned a ring in '76. I think he's a NBA scout for Dallas now.I read somewhere that the player who caught the pass was Kevin Stacom - who I believe had a cup of coffee with the Celtics. Next best player on the team was Danny Hester.Ernie D wasn't close to Pistol Pete in terms of an overall player.
Maravich never averaged fewer than 43.8 points and four assists per game. Even in his final season when he averaged 44.5 points per game he also averaged six assists per game. That despite every team knowing they had to stop Maravich. Ernie D also had Marvin Barnes I could name another guy that played with Pete Maravich.
Your right! That was a longtime ago and I remembered PC & Barnes dominating in the first half and him not playing in the second alf. Forgot he injured the knee. Stacom was the 2G on that team.Barnes sprained his knee in the first half and missed most of the game. He tried to play in the 2nd half but was hobbling and ineffective.

I agree. The thought of making that comparison would never randomly come to my mind. But someone else called Ernie D "a smaller version of Pistol Pete Maravich" so it was on...While true Ernie was not the player Pistol Pete was it is a little unfair to compare to probably the greatest college player of all time. Ernie was a dam good player himself and went on to be rookie of year in NBA before getting hurt an injury that pretty much ended his career
