I can't believe there are people who think that wasn't a flagrant 2, as he connected with the other guy's head, which is flagrant 2 by definition. Paul has done a lot of great things for us this season, but this was his worst moment by far and almost cost us the game. His whining about calls is getting old - and the earlier one was not a hook and hold, but Paul tried to make it look like one. He needs to stop this ******** now and just play the game.
i agree. I like paul and his game a lot. But it is what it is. He’s is a hot head and he is a whiner.
He needs to get that under control.
This from the guy who gave up on the team during the half time show--- something Mulcahy never does--you lack all credibility to critique him
Should have been a double technical. Calling a flagrant 2 on Paul and nothing on them was a joke. He blatantly launched into him with his shoulder after the initial foul. No excuse for the refs or the announcers to miss that.

Correct me if I am wrong but is this actually a thread complaining about the referees when the referee literally 2 seconds earlier physically stopped the ball from going out of bounds?
Flagrant 2 on Paul was the right call, but IU guard’s second foul was a flagrant 1 and should have been called, especially with the benefit of replay!
How many times does he have to get mugged before he has your permission to question the refs? That call where he was charged with an offensive foul was ridiculous. He is handing the ball to another Rutgers player whose defender runs into a stationary Mulcahy and the two get wrapped up. They call an O foul on Paul. Total crap.
If you call one on Paul you call one on the other guy. That was a forearm shiver. That’s not common foul. Preposterous no call.

That was the shocker to me. Geo wasn't even being pressed and could have dribbled easily across mid-court, then set up the play. We dodged a bullet, one of many.
Didn’t read this whole thread, and I’m on the refs as much as anyone.. however that was absolutely a flagrant 2. I said it multiple times when it happened. Was PM provoked, yes absolutely. You can’t swing your arm at another player (and connect) you will be ejected every time.
It was the right call on Paul. He lost his cool and he’s lucky he didn’t make harder contact.
The Indiana player should have gotten more than a common foul though.
We’re so lucky we were in the double bonus, otherwise that could have cost us the game.
Also - what a horrible decision by Baker to pass that. Need to think better in that situation. It would have been out of bounds if it didn’t hit the ref.

Hyatt had ice in his veins on those FTs too - game saving in fact since they tied the game.
Correct... All he does is complain to the refs and this is what happens when you do that. Hopefully he learns moving forward

I won't call Paul derogatory names. I will continue to support him even though he lost his cool. Refs botched it not calling a T on Indiana, how can they review it and not, it is plain as day an intentional shove after the initial foul.
Johnson was a sneaky little F all game. 2 bad ones against Paul and he snuck at Cliff too when cliff almost squared up a him.

That’s easy to say sitting in our homes watching but he was fouled and then mauled after the whistle. Definitely should have been double Technical fouls on top of the common foul. Bad decision by Paul but terrible call by the refs who unlike Paul had time to make their decision.
Exactly; couldn't have said it better. If Paul was averaging 16/8/5 per game, he can do pretty much anything he wants, but he's not, so he has to play smarter. Playing smart is generally his game. He played stupid there and almost cost us, plain and simple.....
While true.. lets stop calling it a left hook.. no fist... it was a weak slap while knocked backward. Yes Paul should have been called... but had he not done that, would the ref have called ANYTHING but a common foul on #0? Even though he continued after the play and threw a shoulder and forearm into Paul to knock him back into our bench?
Yeah, Paul did wrong.. but so did the Indiana player AND the ref who was right there and saw the whole thing. And all the refs got to see it on replay... should have called a dead ball foul on #0.

I honestly don;t think the refs even looked at Johnson's actions after the original foul. They reviewed the swing, he made contact. F2. /end
Shoulder and forearm are, arguably, more dangerous than an open hand slap... and were, in fact, the INSTIGATION of the altercation.
furthermore that ref was right there and saw the problem (if not the swing) and got in-between the players. He saw it and reacted to jump in. To not call anything there.. pathetic. Well, he already called one foul, couldn't call another, right? So hit Paul as many times as you like.. no problem.
I hate that crap where a ref sees an obvious infraction and jumps in and talks to players but doesn't call the foul/infraction. That's what leads to more problems as players do not think they can get justice out there and others think they can get away with anything.
Double T was the way to go, even if you eject Paul.
No - like football, the instigator is rarely punished, but the retaliator is punished. The rule itself sucks. That said, a learning experience for Paul and he is smart enough to learn from it.
Because there are plenty of examples over the years of him doing stupid and reckless end game stuff just like this. Only have to go back a few for examples. Already forgetting the pass to nobody a few games ago?

Johnsons lucky he didn’t land the right. He deserved much more than he got there.
Watched 15 times. Paul did get mauled and pushed. When you watch it, when he was pushed his left arm goes up. Paul then brings his arm down with the elbow out. It was not a swing at Johnson's head. Johnson was leaning into Paul at the time Johnson was playing dirty the whole game.
Okay, I went back and reviewed the game thread and didn't see any comment.... did anyone else see Durr shove Mag with two hands to his chest, sending him onto his back and neck in the paint after a rebound? I know the refs didn't, but it doesn't look like anyone on the forum did either.
Edit: Went back and checked. It was at 10:05 in the second half, on a made Harper three. Durr came across the restricted area and hit Mag across the top of his chest with a forearm, and sent him to the ground, rolling back onto his neck. IMO, definitely a dead ball foul - reviewing it again, though, not sure if it rises to the level of a flagrant.
