That’s not really negativity - you can still love and support the team and acknowledge a serious issue with offensive output.
Yup. The team played like crap and they would probably be the first ones to tell you that. Yet our resident Pollyanna swoops in to tell us all how to be better fans. Not today, Pollyanna, not today...check back later in the week.

People only resort to name calling when they don't have a point to make.

Are the students gone by Sat?
I don't think so. Rutgers was always late with finals and break compared to other schools, but that may have changed. These days, I judge the schedules by traffic patterns in town.

They were unlucky vs Ohio state but there was nothing unlucky about yesterday. They clearly aren’t very skilled offensively this year.
So when Iowa scored 46 against us last year that meant they weren’t skilled? We certainly aren’t Iowa, but every team has an awful night here and there. If we can average in the 60s we can win many games with our defense.

Pikiell gets paid to worry about that. I don't.

I'm supporting the team all the way.
You don’t get paid for that either, so pretty silly rationale. Feel free to be blindly positive, I’m all for it, but don’t be upset others like to also discuss reality on a board created for just that.

They had the worst game in a long time for all 40 minutes , but coming off a pretty good offensive game against Miami , Indiana and Ohio State. So I disagree about skill. Cam’s threes are going drop, Cliff had his worst game in the last 40 , and Paul and Caleb did not play well or take simple 10-15 foot jump shots. Ironically , Hyatt was 3-5 from three but was glued to the bench for over 8 minutes in the second half and Derek never got back in the game. The offense will get better. That **** show will not surface again this year.

Yup. Rivalry games are weird. Reminds you the players are kids.

Just suprised that Paul , Caleb , Cliff and Cam , guys with 90-120 games plus game experience , all kinds of close games , allowed that to happen. Mind numbing.

We scored 43 points at home with our full compliment of players = fact. The fact you are making me, an unabashed Pike slurper and positoid, point this out shows how in la la land you are.
Then again, Indiana scored 48 entire points against us --- the lowest total for a top ten
team in decades -- and then scored 80 in their next game. These are college players
who have played 1/3 of the season and still trying to find consistency. Let's see where we are
on February 1st

Getting screwed on blown out of bounds calls on the last play of the game in back to back games is about as unlucky as it can possibly get. One time is extremely unlucky. Twice in a row is an unheard of level of bad luck

The Seton Hall player stepped out with both feet two steps before jumping to save the ball. Should have been our ball with about 5 seconds left. Plenty of time to tie or win

Just bc we played bad doesn't mean we didn't get extremely unlucky and screwed horribly yet again

Considering the ball was under our basket we would've got a foul call going to the rim with a chance to win at the line.

Which is why praising the D and worrying about the O is LOGICAL. But OP just wants to act like there isn’t a deficiency when there clearly is.

Then how do you account for 43 points at home? Do you not think that is objectively too low a total? Everything was working in your estimation? You don’t strike me as stats guy, but we are 193 in offensive efficiency this year. Is that good in your eyes?
Is Seton Hall averaging 45ppg? Every game is different and unique. We had chances to win even as poorly as we played. Better days are ahead and it wasn't a Q4 loss like last year. The sky isn't falling. A lot of season still to go.

Virginia built a championship contender doing this. Why can't we do the same?
This is a bit misleading. Virginia was both great defensively and really slow in terms of tempo; their best teams were actually good in offensive efficiency as well.

Looking at kenpom, Virginia:
2014 - #4 overall, #27 off, #4 def
2015 - #6 overall, #21 off, #2 def
2016 - #4 overall, #8 off, #7 def
2017 - #12 overall, #50 off, #2 def
2018 - #2 overall, #30 off, #1 def
2019 - #1 overall, #2 off, #5 def

We are currently #32 overall, #143 off, #3 def. If we want to advance to the championship contender level we will need a lot of improvement on offense. There is a limit to how good the defense can be. To be a contender we don't need to be great offensively, but we need to at least be very good.

The worst offense for a team that has finished in the top 10 overall kenpom going back to 2001-02 seasons is West Virginia from 2019-20.

They were #10 overall, #67 offense, #3 defense
Appreciate you pulling actual data to make your point rather than the emotional nonsense that filled this thread. Will be interesting to see how the season unfolds but it's far from over and our best basketball is still ahead.

That’s the defense. I specifically said offense and you change the subject. I never said the sky is falling. I said there are concerns about the offense, and gave data to support it. I’m the biggest Pike guy here - but you’re just being weird.
