Obviously a little blame goes on the kids. Mostly because they are young and going to make mistakes. Cal does nothing to make the game easier for them. Askew plays damn hard. I like him. As said above though, he should be in a backup role. If talent is the issue why do so many of our guys still make NBA rosters and become good to great players showing skills we never dreamed they had when they were here? It’s because Cal’s whole system is antiquated and woefully easy to prepare for. Our opponents are never surprised, never made uncomfortable. Cal takes elite athletes and tries to play Joe B Hall walk it up and jam it in the post offense and passive defense. When he should be playing like the old Nolan Richardson Arkansas teams or Tarks UNLV teams and making every possession by the other team a struggle. And win creating turnovers and easy buckets for his guys. That’s the type of athletes he has and for the life of me I can’t figure out why he doesn’t see that.

If Cats win a SECT would you honest to God think it was a successful year?

No. I don’t think that’s a successful year. Now, if that happens and they make any type of tournament run, I think we remember this team differently. I don’t think it’s likely, but I’ll be watching.

See maybe i'm different, but the tournament run is not the only thing that matters to me. I remember getting blown out by duke by 40 points several years back. That to me is just unacceptable. I don't care that Cal has taken us to multiple final fours and won a championship, if we are getting blown out by 40 by Duke. We lost to Evansville, Richmond, bama put up over 20 on us at home and cleared their bench. These things matter as well. The whole "wait till march" drives me insane and just seems to be a lazy excuse. Not pointing you out specifically and saying you do that, but in general.

Cal has waded into the ncaa miss catagorey too many times for a UK coach. He’s good for another two the next ten years.

Askew: 0 points, 1 reb, 1 ast. In a ton of minutes. His lineups and halfcourt sets are god awful. Get him out ASAP
Askew has struggled lately no doubt. But it isn't like he shot a ton this game or had a bunch of TOs. He played 24 mins. scored 2 pts on only 2 shots and had 1 reb, 1 stl, 2 assists, and 1 TO. Toppin played 21 mins and scored 0, he did grab 5 rebs, 1 stl, and had 1 TO. I just don't get the Askew hate.

Mitch may have killed UK basketball by giving the snake oil salesman a lifetime contract for $10mil a year. We’re so screwed. The real miracle is an NBA team calling him and he leaves.
I may be wrong, but in some contracts, they have a "for cause" clause that the employee can be fired and the contract can be voided if the employee does something (or doesn't do something) that goes against the morals, beliefs, etc. of the employer. Im not sure if I'm making any sense, but it could be a way out. Especially with a contract of this magnitude.

No. Not winning will never be a way out of a contract. Cheating, sleazy activity ( see Strippergate), illegal acts, etc. are ways out of a contract. Not performance.

Fulmer did it to Pruitt down in UT just to get rid of him.

Are you gonna pay him the $52.5 million buyout? Because he can’t get fired unless someone does, and there ain’t a chance in hell of UK doing it.

If he is let go, a judge will decide the amount. There is fired for cause.

I agree. I didn't mean performance, specifically. But as I said, more to do with morality, like you said stripppergate and illegal acts. Thanks for your reply.

When Cal recruited these players did he have any idea none of his guards would come back. How many people on here thought Q and Hagans would not be back and Montgomery as well
Everybody knew they weren’t coming back.

I don't know why this is so hard for anyone here to understand. Calipari isn't going anywhere. It would take multiple years like this one for there to even be a conversation. You think the press was against Trump? Just wait until you see the sports media if UK were to run Calipari off. A Coach mind you, who has won more games than any other coach in D1 the last 10 years. Does this year suck really bad? Absolutely, nobody would argue otherwise, but to constantly call for the coaches head over one lousy season....well I guess it shows recency bias is alive and well. If next year is as bad as this one....then I'll be first in line with the for sale signs.

I’ve said it over and over. Our fans are too emotional and dramatic. These fans calling for cals head are the same ones who will lock arms and chant C-A-T-S when we get back to winning. Just drama queens and cry babies. You’re right, it will take a few years of decline to prompt a move on UK’s part. If we did manage to run him off we would be the most disgraced fan base in America but a lot of our fans can’t even visualize that because they are small picture thinkers.

Unless Cal is caught cheating or committing some sordid crime, UK would lose that case.

For cause is very difficult to prove in these cases. The school needs really ugly dirt on the coach to have any chance of winning, I don’t think we’re gonna find it on Cal. We ain’t getting out of that contract.

When he’s on the floor I can’t tell you how many times it results in a desperation shot at the end of the shot clock. If we as fans are able to see how much better of a team we are when he’s on the bench, why can’t the guy making 9 million see it ?!?
There is nothing more crippling to an offense that when you're point guard is not threat to shoot. And that doubles when they cant break down their man and get by either. Love Askews hustle and heart and think he will be a better player with time but those are just hard realities.

Answer me this . . . why is it never an option to "Fix" a players shot? Instead of just using the "gotta keep shooting" method. Bring in a shot doctor, teach them how to get it out of their palm, calm the eyes and body and release with touch and rythm , whatever it takes.

If you had military a situation and you they did an analysis on what to do or if you had an engineer that was brought in to fix a situation, they'd start by saying . . . the problem is they cant shoot, fix that and fix the problem.

One problem. Who does he play? It’s not like we have a stable of kick *** point guards ready and waiting. I’m not disagreeing with you. Just don’t know who else we could play.
