They would likely have a record number of people watching since it is the closest you're going to get to live sports for some time.
Maybe, but most of the teams are in already. Obviously there isn’t one fan base as starved for this as we are. How much of our desire is simply because our team and fan base are the most aggrieved ? I’d watch , but how many of our conference mates really care? I still can’t believe it

In a normal situation, most conference mates wouldn't watch it but this isn't normal times. We've lost all LIVE sports and this is the closest you'll get to it for some time. People are hungry for some type of entertainment.

Gavitt is an unmitigated idiot and coward. 1 the kids and teams deserved the acknowledgement. Two it would have been viewed and generated ad revenue in a dead economy. 3 it would have given viewers a diversion. The committee was hired to do a job and they could have done it. I repeat, Gavitt is a moron!

My guess is he’s just the sacrificial lamb that had to come out and say it. That being said...it’s almost way worse hearing that BS excuse than if they would have just stayed silent with a blanket answer of if we’re done or we’re moving fwd in some capacity without the reasoning.

Have the Selection Show. Pick the teams and the brackets. And then for the next three weeks have computer simulated games. Obviously you don't award a championship based on this but it would be fun and something to watch. And the teams that get in can officially say they made it to the tournament this year

They missed a big opportunity to do the right thing.... the claimed “ oh the poor kids” but didn’t give the kids what they wanted and played for all season long,... most teamgoals for the year are just to make NCAA tournament. Probably 10-15 teams set a realistic goal of winning the actual tournament

On Thursday, I was all in for releasing the brackets. By Sunday morning, I did not think it was necessary and that the best thing to do was to just move on...i believe I changed my opinion after 3 days without sports...let’s have RU get in on the selection show and actually play the game next year when there is a tourney.

Agree... very tone-deaf..... even if you don't release brackets you could have released a list of 68-70 teams that "would have been in the final decision process when the season ended".....
They didn’t need to bracket based on hypotheticals. Crown regular season champs as needed and make the selections based on available info just like they would have had to do if the tournament went on. Just pompous nonsense.

The NCAA knew what type of leadership they were getting when they hired Gavitt. Gavitt was part of the Big East crew that destroyed that conference. You get what you pay for and for the NCAA that is status quo aka yearly failure and missteps.

I never understood this hire.
Why perpetuate the Providence Hoops syndicate failings?
It was weird how many Gavitts, and their Friar acolytes, were on the payroll at the Big East. Bringing that to the NCAA - that's crazy.
This guy needs to start "working remotely" immediately and permanently.

Just like the IVY has done every year up until 3 or 4 years ago,

Can't say UNC didn't make the tournament if no bracket is announced.

Sadly I really think **** like that played a part here.

he said it was his decision and his decision alone to not release the brackets
Oh that. Yeah, he'll get some heat for that. I think it is the right decision. If all of the conference tournaments had been completed then I'd be all for releasing the bracket.

Then why release their Top 16 seeds mid-season?
Glad you brought that up. I'm against that also.

That mid-season top-16 seeds is b.s. and doesn't mean anything. Just an attention grab. Did they give a banner to each one of those 16 teams?

It is just so unnecessary and self-serving.

"Congratulations we considered you one of the top 16 seeds in the middle of the season so here's your banner that is worth absolutely nothing."

Everyone on the committee already has a day job, and with all of the craziness these days, I’m sure their focus is elsewhere. I understand completely, as it doesn’t make sense to take up their time right now to go through the full bracketing process. It’s a really time consuming thing if you want to do it right.

Fake brackets for a non-existent tournament after different teams had unfinished seasons at different stages would be total BS.

It sucks. Stop complaining, rub some dirt on it, and move on.

It wouldn't have been perfect since the conference tourneys didn't happen, but it would be a hell of a lot better than nothing. Put the regular season winners in and then pick the best of the rest. How hard is that? Does the NCAA not have a Zoom account?

And then, and this would be great. Have a geek quant site like 538.com calculate the odds for each match up. Then use a random number generator to pick winners, and hold the tourney virtually.

It would be great fun, which we could all use right now.
