Finally game week! Predictions?

I am so pumped for this season. Have not been this optimistic since before the start of the 2010 season. Let's hope the results are better. Is it too early for a prediction thread? Here is my prediction for the UTEP game. I was initially leaning toward a low scoring affair. First game jitters and all that. And I think it will be somewhat close for a half before we blow it open in the second half. My prediction:

49-13 and 35-3 at the half. Back ups play a ton in second half. 2 turnovers and it’s from Heinrich in the 2nd half.

I’m not sure we see that much backups until at least 4th quarter. Our starters need reps. Now in saying that. I’d hate to lose our quarterback with 12 minutes left up 42-3.

Nebraska loss 42-45. Same score as Georgia Southern in 2022 who were also coming off a 3-9 season the year before like UTEP.

Sorry, Lucy yanked the football up and allowed me to kick my forehead and fall on my back so many times when I was trying to kick off, I can't help but be jaded about trying again.

I’ll go 54-6. That might be too much kool-aid but I think we’ll have some quick scores just to show we can go deep. I think the D will put 1 or 2 in the EZ as well.

Naa.. Judging by the win loss total that is definitely not the case. I think the game will be a little bit clunky, but we are damn near a 4 score favorite. If I trust one thing it is Vegas. Hopefully we work the kinks out and cruise that way we are ready for hate week.

If we start 3-0 and look decent will you have any optimism?

Definitely need to score 40+ to feel like this team has truly progressed. Defensively if we give up more than two TDs then I’ll think it’s regressed some.

and? I didn't say UTEP wasn't going to cover, but when the spread is that high there is a pretty damn good chance this game will never be in doubt. Clunky yes. It is Week 1 and everyone will have issues, but that also doesn't mean UTEP isn't going to have issues as well.

I predict Saturday morning will feel pretty great! College Gameday on the tv, weather under 90, a little work around the house, Clemson and Georgia at 11 and then it's TIME!!

31-13. I do think it will be to close for comfort for awhile. Then maybe a late score. I just need to see it be different before I believe.

With the transfer portal, these big underdogs have been doing just fine so far, small sample size BUT, New Mex, Nevada, GT, Del State...these teams are all covering (or winning) with ease.

The -27 that I DID like a few weeks ago, I not longer really like. Gone are the days of some "young team" from a lame conference. Most of these teams are starting guys with a good amount of playing experience.

Won't be shocked at all if this is one of those boring/ugly 27-14 type games.

Agree, too small of a sample size. Also first game of the year. Then take into account that New Mexico and Hawaii weren't good at all last year.

True but both were at home and either struggled a bit and/or lost to FCS schools.

I think NU will win something like 34-10

I'd like to see a 52-6 beat down. At the very least, I'd like to see NU be in control from start to finish and not slog around for 4 quarters, needing the defense or special teams to come up with a miracle to ice the game.

The last time we were 1-0 was 2019...so let's be 1-0.
