Agree. IF the Huskers would have gotten better QB play last year, Frost would have easily been in a bowl game and likely would have won 7-8 games. QB play is the ultimate limiter in crucial games.Amazing how your coaching improves when you have a Hall Of Fame QB
That and some better defense and special teams at times.Agree. IF the Huskers would have gotten better QB play last year, Frost would have easily been in a bowl game and likely would have won 7-8 games. QB play is the ultimate limiter in crucial games.
Leave the special teams and D the same, and we still would have won a couple of more games last year with better QB play. AM really stunk it up in a couple of games. That and some better defense and special teams at times.
In some of those games that AM stunk it up, the O-Line, defense and special teams were equally bad if not worse, to lay it all on AM is a bit of a reachLeave the special teams and D the same, and we still would have won a couple of more games last year with better QB play. They also need to cockiness/confidence that they can come back if they get down, kc had to come from behind in all there playoff games. They never foldedLeave the special teams and D the same, and we still would have won a couple of more games last year with better QB play. AM really stunk it up in a couple of games.
I am not laying "it all" on AM. BUT the bottomline is the QB is the single most important player on your team and if he struggles, you have no room for error in the other phases of the game. It's a team sport. The team wins or loses games but QB is just the guy who HAS to play at least average. I've been a big AM fan and apologist, but man he just plain played badly in a couple of games. I excuse some of his plays maybe due to his injuries but in a couple of our losses he just was not seeing the field like he needs to.In some of those games that AM stunk it up, the O-Line, defense and special teams were equally bad if not worse, to lay it all on AM is a bit of a reach
I agree AM didn’t have a good year but being a coach it’s never as simple as it looks. Frost is at every practice we are not and Frost is not playing him because there buddies. We have some exciting new quarterbacks but Frost is building for the future, look at all the redshirts. If he thought we could win games with a quarterback change he would of went with them.I am not laying "it all" on AM. "Hey H, theres John Candy" right before calmly chucking a TD pass to John Taylor.Well thankfully John Candy wasn’t in Miami tonight
Thank you for getting the reference. It was almost the exact same situation tonight in the same dam city. But Jimmy G is no Joe M and John Candy is gone."Hey H, theres John Candy" right before calmly chucking a TD pass to John Taylor.
I don't disagree with your post. I will also say though that at times Frost's hands were tied with the health of his backups or he might have made an in game substitution for a struggling injured AM.I agree AM didn’t have a good year but being a coach it’s never as simple as it looks. Yeah late in the game right after the Chiefs took the lead, it looked like Jimmy was gonna lead the Niners down the field. He tossed that long throw and I thought, this is it. They got the lead. The pass fell three yards beyond the receiver who had two steps on the defenders. They were done then.Thank you for getting the reference. The shuttle pass was a good call, the problem was the players were let’s say lazy on the execution part. Btw TO call a play similar to that in a game it worked!!!Anyone notice how Reid got creative on goal line and short yardage, because he knew they couldn't run right at SF? Could you imagine Nebraska fans if we run wildcat, direct snaps and short side options in those situations? Hell, three months later people are still bitching about an incomplete shovel pass on first and goal against Purdue.
I have defended AM on most occasions. The fact remains that on many crucial down and distance situations regardless of the play call, he made poor reads and poor decisions. Did the pass rush pressure he had received on previous plays affect his decision making? Possibly. Did his injury situation affect his execution? No doubt at times it did. BUT, when you've got a wide open guy on an underneath route and you try to force it in to a guy who was doubled 15 yards further down the field directly in line with the underneath guy, that's a vision and/or decision making problem. He'll get better. He's just getting started. Playing QB at NU is not for the weak stomached. You're going to get criticized and I have not been unreasonable with my assessments.Granted the QB is very, important but your post was laying it all on AM many other things led to last year, as stated o-line special teams and some suspect play calling
Kinda like how Belichick became a "genius" when he had players. I don't recall anyone praising his intellect when he was with Cleveland.Amazing how your coaching improves when you have a Hall Of Fame QB
One of the most interesting little tidbits today that I read was that the 3 and 15 play to Hill that really keyed the comeback was asked for by Mahomes and Ried consented to calling it. Wow. Mahomes said that he knew by the way they had been playing D that Hill would get a one on one with a safety with that offensive play design. Chaching. THAT is what a guy needs at QB to win big.Andy has always been a really good coach, like TO he just couldn’t get over the hump. Here to the Chiefs and Andy going on a TO like run with a QB sporting #15.
With all due respect, that is an incredibly weak take. He was the "genius" on all those Bill Parcells teams. When he left Cleveland, he must have had a super loaded/talented team 17/20 seasons(!) that they won the AFC East. He won six Super Bowls during that time. Apparently any idiot could do all that.Kinda like how Belichick became a "genius" when he had players. I don't recall anyone praising his intellect when he was with Cleveland.
