It's a shame that it wasn't settled on the field. Michigan had a better defense while Nebraska had a better offense. Nebraska probably wins, but likely in a close defensive battle. However, no one knows, that's why you play the game.
Nebraska wins by 17. Not really that close. Their D would struggle against our offense. We would not with theirs.

I thought the Peyton Manning vs Ryan Leaf debate was settled a quarter century ago? Are we debating it again?
It's not Peyton Manning vs Ryan Leaf, it's Washington St. vs Tennessee. It's a team sport, not an individual one.

They didn't dodge playing Nebraska. They were locked into a contract to play the Pac 10 champion in the Rose Bowl, they couldn't play Nebraska without breaching their contract
Yeah that was probably the scenario that finally convinced the Blowhard Ten to stop hiding in the Grandaddy of Them All and join modern college football.

I know moral is just trolling but the idea that Nebraska just sneaked in that year still boils my blood.

Saved Michigan that year. 94 Penn State had a better shot vs 94 Nebraska.

I would agree. If two teams finished undefeated and didn't play each other, it was pretty much a media popularity contest to determine which undefeated team should get the championship.

Getting back to this game, Michigan has had the ball 3 times inside the 5 and came away with 3 points. That's a losing recipe.

I agree. Michigan under estimated this TCU team. Can't be cocky and not back it up. Still hope Ryan Day has his team ready to play Georgia tonight. Michigan is a huge disappointment.

Nebraska couldn't beat flipping Missouri by 57 points? What makes you think they could have beaten Washington St. by that much?
For some reason I thought this was the thread to post unfounded personal opinions about 1997. I actually think they would have beat Washington Lite by 60.

Not over yet, but it will be fun listening to McDonough act like he’s covering a funeral.

I don't want to give Michigan fans excuses but when Corum went down vs Illinois, they became much more vulnerable. Edwards is good but their running attack doesn't work like it does with Corum + Edwards. They could grind teams down with that OL and two RBs.

I don't think McCarthy can carry them. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

Our defense struggled against Missouri that year, a team Michigan would have literally killed.
You're clueless. You don't have a good memory. Look at Tennessee's roster: Manning, Leonard Little, Trey Teague, Terry Fair, Marcus Nash, Jamaal Lewis, Al Wilson, Travis Henry, Peerless Price, Shaun Ellis, to name a few. This team was the 2nd best team in the country easily and Nebraska made them look like a high school squad.
