Awesome. We should be top 5 most years in the transfer portal. Some billionaire might out bid us for a player or two, but the Kentucky brand should have enough NIL potential (along with our own wealthy donors) to outspend 95% of teams on a consistent basis in basketball. I hate the NIL era, but we should continue to do really well.

The Kentucky brand means jack. Need to drop that ideality fast. It's not why Mitchell or Milan came. They came because they were forked over the brinks in their final year in college, with an uncertain NBA future. Not until Pope starts doing some real winning and sending kids to the league will the brand mean something.

Top kids are going to move for:

Money
Coaching/development

I'd say over the hill fringe guys like Mitchell and Milan will go for the money. Younger, NBA upside kids may go somewhere that they feel gets them to the NBA. All these 5 year guys being reinstated are 100% going for the money.

I'm going to be really curious to see how these kids impact locker rooms and chemistry. Imagine assuming you were the starting 4, working all summer with the first unit, then some old dude comes in off the street a week before school starts?

If this team is fully healthy and eligible Pope has to at least make the E8 this year. No more excuses.

I'm not talking about the "brand" in terms of kids wanting to play for Kentucky. I'm talking about brand in terms of major companies wanting to do business with Kentucky basketball. That's the whole idea behind JMI. The ability to leverage the popularity of Kentucky basketball in the NIL era should be huge.

Got it, you're talking more about the economical network bolstering with a better UK product. That makes more sense.

Correct. I agree with your previous point. No one gives a crap about playing for a Blue Blood anymore, it's money and some coaching factoring in the decisions. Just think being a hugely popular basketball team should keep us very competitive with the NIL budgets for basketball. Obviously having a few wealthy individuals who are huge fans doesn't hurt either.

The only two programs that feel like kids will go to for the "experience" or brand is Duke or UConn for different reasons. Duke if you want to be part of the brotherhood and do a lot of koombaya in Coach Kville with the campers and UConn if you want to go into a basketball military academy to get your @SS in shape and become a basketball soldier. Each attracts a certain kind of kid. Hurley essentially produces the Navy Seals of basketball. Not sure that place is for everyone, but for those that are, it's like getting your basketball degree from West Point.

Not trying to be negative in anyway, just hope the NCAA doesn’t come back later and shoots this down. I have no knowledge on how this court stuff works
Exactly, this can easily be undone as it was done. This is just temporary and you know they will fight it. We just need this to continue on and at least win enough cases that he has protection through the season.

Damn. UT has 9 transfers? Talk about a rebuild. That’s nuts. Hopefully they suck.
We always think they lose a ton, but somehow Barnes finds three random big men and a PG who plays 9 years to take over. Add a few transfers and they keep being good year after year.

This is Barnes' swan song though. Too bad he may have his best roster ever to get it done at UT.

LOL, JMI is making money off these contracts. The "wanting to do business" means jack. They'll "do business" with anyone who makes them money.

I saw a clip that Ferarri provided ~15 different Ferraris FREE to the Magnum PI directors for use in the show over the years, and each one was gradually swapped out for the next one, reconditioned, and sold as used. Great "free" marketing as their popularity in the US skyrocketed as a result. What's funnier is that in most of them, the car was so small (and Tom Selleck was so tall) that they had to basically rip out the driver's seat and put him on the floorboard- his head was usually still sticking out the top. :)

Between that and the Daytona on Miami Vice I think they did a good job of establishing themselves as the coolest brand of the day.
