Ferentz?

I don't know Ferentz vrs Frost but I have to say paying Frost 35 million for 7 years is kind of crazy money for a guy that has been a head coach for only 2 years... Probably just as crazy as the money we throw at Ferentz. The only difference is that Ferentz has put the time in and has been pretty successful and steady at Iowa. What has Frost done? He did turn a turn a program around in 2 years but what else does he done to warrant such a high contract? For better or for worst, it will be great for your program or a complete fail... 7 years is a long time for an unproven coach...Big risk or great reward..guess we will find out...

$5m/year, give or take, was the market rate for Frost after going 12-0. If we didn't pay it, someone else would have. We lost our chance to get him for a discount three years ago, although not sure he would have come here while Perlman/Eichorst were in charge anyway. Frost is the right guy for NU, the timing is perfect and we weren't going to let money get in the way. For all the grief we've received about whether joining the B1G was the right move, our full share of the honey pot certainly kicked in at the right time.

As for the years, the length of the contract is irrelevant. No coach is going to get less than three years without doing something insane. And since a coach always has to be under contract for the next four seasons (at least) for recruiting purposes, seven years is essentially the minimum length. The same reason Riley is getting paid for the next four years and Pelini is, somehow, still getting paid by us as well. *sigh with prolonged eye roll*

Otherwise, we give him a four- or five-year deal and we're already extending him in a year or two. Might as well go seven now and show him that we're willing to fully invest and give him the time he needs to right the ship. The way salaries are going up in big boy football, it could end up looking like a bargain in a few years.

Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Rutgers and Wisconsin, Michigan State pay ATTENTION. Your days of even being competitive with the Huskers will end soon. It may not start next season but it won't be long before Big Red is treating these teams like they use to treat Kansas. For the so called Royal Three of the Big Ten. The Huskers are about to crash your party.
As a Spartan I find it Amazing to clump MSU and Wisconsin in with some of these other schools. Well I won’t speak for Wisky, but I can tell you that Urban, Harbaugh or Franklin doesn’t share your view of MSU. Heard the same thing when we played tOSU in the BTCG, same when UM’s golden child was hired & same this year vs. PSU. I have no doubt that Frost will be successful, but the Spartans aren’t going anywhere.

Why are people even talking about let alone thinking about Iowa on a day like this?!!!

Thank you, sir. The old adage, don’t worry about the other guy, pay attention to the the things you can control. You know, like preparation, performance, attitude, etc. That is what I expect our new coach will focus on.

Its statements like these that make some Neb fans look silly. Frost is as good of a hire for Neb as you could have right now and I hope he brings you back to be more competitive. I think he will in time but trust me, the rest of the league is not trembling in fear.

And trust me, none of us are stupid. No one really thinks other teams are scared...my God. This is a HUSKER site. We are all fired up and excited to have a good coach finally that knows how to turn things around. And our fans are pounding our chests at each other. If we go to other teams sites saying all this...then I get your point. I know you Iowa fans are hoping it takes Frost a bit of time to turn things. Bad thing for all the Big 10 West is Frost will have big time weapons at his disposal on offense. His only mess is OL. Can he right that quick. If so, are offense could be a quicker fix then some may think. The other part is the defense. There’s talent there, plenty of 4 star kids. Can Chin get them in line?? Again, this is exactly why the Gators wanted him and so on...thank God he was a Husker first.

This isn't the only poll about Frost. They also had one about how successful they think he will be. I think they are feeling pretty insecure right now and making these polls to comfort themselves.

They know that they will never win a national title under Ferentz and seem ok with that because he keeps them respectable and they don't want to suffer through seasons with 2-3 wins like Iowa State sometimes has.
From my point of view it's a talking point and nothing more. We don't really care who coaches who. Iowa isn't perfect, but Iowa is always up for big games against big Coaches/teams. Ferentz has beaten and trounced some big name coaches in his years, including Saban, Dantonio, Harbaugh, Meyer, Paterno, your last two coaches, Beliemas Wiscy, Alvarez's Wiscy, etc. There's nothing you guys will show us that we don't already see with PSU, OSU, Michigan, etc.

You’d think Iowa fans would be content to comment about Nebraska on their own board, there’s definitely enough threads over there about the huskers.
I know Mike Riley is a nice guy, but did he really need to let Iowa walk all over the huskers for theee years just to make the Iowa fan base feel good about themselves for a few years? I’m nice too, but my kindness has it’s limits.

Iowa wouldn't be anything without Nebraska joining the Big 10, we've risen your boat

Iowa definitely owned MR, but that’s it. Funny how after 3 straight wins KF still has a losing record against Nebraska.

I'm pretty sure Iowa's success doesn't hinge on beating you. People don't talk about the beat down Iowa gave you this year, they talk about Iowa's beat down of OSU and how it kept them out of the playoffs.

My comment has nothing to do with Iowa beating Nebraska

You understand why that inexcusable loss kept tOSU out of the CFP right?

The way I see it is we have 11 games to get the wheels turning before we play Iowa and 4+ games are against much better teams. Frost will have us prepared for Iowa no doubt. Will Iowa fans want us as a rival game after the 2018 matchup???

A 7 win season is a good season for Iowa, so they are happy
Actually nobody is happy with 7 wins... We left some wins out there this year and playing in the Pinstripe Bowl in NYC, two days after Christmas in not the bowl we wanted... The other side of that is that we are in one of the meaningless bowls and Nebraska gets to stay home...

Or you will be looking to fire Scooter in 3 - 4 years it could go either way considering past history.

Beat Iowa and Wisconsin every year, from there everything falls into place.

Both Solich and Pelini got more than 3-4 years. Tom Osborne and Bob Devaney got more than 3-4 years.

What was your point?

I am sorry but that is crazy talk. The Big Ten is not the Big 12 North. Any of those teams can sneak up and bite you. Nobody is a walking doormat. Indiana always plays OSU tough. NW as you know is better than you would think and can take a W away. Iowa and Wiscy play same style to keep games close and win ugly. Just goes to show you the highs and lows. We stomp OSU then lose to Purdue on Sr day.

I’m not saying Nebraska won’t do well but there is no way you run through these teams like cheddar. I am happy for the program to get their coach. Our admin screwed ours up so cheers to Moos. Think you will do well but good luck with expectations.
