Why is the IHSA giving Fenwick a week 8 forfeit win for not scheduling a game ? This has been open for them since before the summer.

Lots of CPS without a game after other CPS couldn’t Field a team this year.Could get a game
Have to think it would be better (for all teams involved) from a competition/safety standpoint for Fenwick to get a forfeit W than play a CPS team from a Blue conference.

If you're a Red Conference team, it only makes sense to seek out Fenwick if you know you'll be in the playoffs, AND seeded high enough that a tough game is better for you (for playoff prep) than another W to be seeded higher. That's a pretty small subset imo.

How did this come to be again? It’s Catholic League crossover week it shouldn’t have been an issue. This is more like a week 2 problem.

What was their original game? If so, you are always allowed to take the forfeit.

If a team was scheduled and bailed on them and they made a legit attempt to find a replacement and were unsuccessful then I understand the forfeit W

Interesting. A bummer for the kids for sure. You only get 9 regular season games and time is winding down for the seniors. I know the ADs have a tough job, but you would think they could have found a game worth playing with that much advanced notice.

Example.Eisenhower got forfeit vs Near North I think. They got Fenger to play them.Paid for busses to pick up players & take them back as well as any Fenger fans who wanted to come who got in free. They also fed Fenger afterwards

I have no facts just an uneducated guess. In the two-year cycle I seem to recall that a couple of Chicago Catholic League/East Sub. Catholic teams shut down programs. Perhaps Fenwick was slated to play one such team this week and the ihsa had ruled when that occurred that it would be a forfeit win for playoff purposes if on this case Fenwick could not find an opponent. The IHSA wouldn’t want to penalize Fenwick because a scheduled opponent stopped competing and according to another poster Fenwick did try for a replacement game vs. team from Michigan that fell through. Schedules are made at least two years in advance it seems like because of home and home scheduling and that would be my thought on why Fenwick gets a forfeit win. I went through quickly the ihsa schedules and according to them the only Chicago Public League team not scheduled for a game Week 8 is Tilden of the Blue Division. I cannot think of a single reason Tilden and Fenwick should play, given that the IHSA will give Fenwicka forfeit win anyway and with no game, there is no chance of any players getting hurt in what likely would be a name-your-score type of game.

And with forfeits on the mind I remember when Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin was praised for taking a beating in a mismatch at Loyola.
This week, I have seen a schedule that says Marian Central of Woodstock is playing Mt. Carmel.
Perhaps they are playing Mt. Carmel from downstate which is 7-0 and outscored it’s foes 376-82 which is an average score of 54-11.
We all know what the alternative Mt. Carmel has done this season.

I feel like the more perplexing question is why Marian of the sticks would rather drive 5 hours to be running clocked by Mt. Carmel IL rather than just keep Fenwick on the schedule. Like Marian will leave St. Rita and Providence on the schedule but Fenwick is where they draw the line?

Yes I r correct. Mind is definitely forgetting more and more every week. Yes it’s sad. It sure was Rochester.
I guess i look At it like this: Marian central needed a week 8 game and took a road game a looooooong way away vs a team that was a state small school power last year and based on scores is every bit as strong this year. So I m not sure what kind of opponent Fenwick could have found for Week 8 given what Marian opted for.
especially because Fenwick needed a fifth win after 7 weeks and I don’t know if the St. Iggy game will be a sure win.
