Read this story yesterday. She is a senior director level and her title was Director for the “Center for Excellence and Expertise over Automotive and Aerospace Engineering.”. ….. what in the blue F* is that? and how in the sh*t is it relevant to CBP? If it was the NTSB or even just Automotive and Aerospace “engineering” … I could understand …. but center of Excellence and Expertise????

I’d LOVE to know what this “center” does.

Right off the CBP website:

Centers of Excellence and Expertise (Centers) are industry-focused and account-based operational organizations processing post-release trade activities on behalf of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Centers are aligned by 10 key industry sectors in strategic locations at Ports of Entry across the U.S. and are the strategic point of connectivity between the trade community and CBP operations. The Centers increase uniformity of practices across the Ports of Entry, facilitate the timely resolution of trade compliance issues nationwide and strengthen CBP’s ability to protect the U.S. economy.

The Centers are comprised of organization units that focus on one of the following strategic areas:

Partnership Division

Streamline trade facilitation efforts through partnership programs and increase industry-based knowledge through bi-direction education efforts.

Validation and Compliance Division (V&C)

Validate risk factors within an industry sector and develop approaches to improve compliance.

Enforcement Division

Develop and address risks through impactful national enforcement plans and strategies.

Sounds like a department that could be key if you're trying to enforce tariffs within certain industries tbh

Of course we do.

That is the whole purpose of the tariffs. That is the entire macro thing you miss.

During the C-19 thing, we had to depend on CHINA (who started the virus in the first place) for stuff we needed here to protect our citizens.

All of those jobs/manufacturing need to be brought back to the USA. We need to look out for our people first.

Somehow, you have a problem with that. We shouldn't depend on ANY other country for ****. We have everything needed, right here.

You had just said the department doesn’t do ****. I’m just saying we currently import a ton and could see the need for a department to oversee all of that. Making sure the border is secure but also that we get the parts we need. I further even said it felt like a department that could work with tariff enforcement if that’s what you wanted since they deal with parts coming over the border. Then it felt like you went on a rant about not those things but other things. Apologies if I misunderstood

It's truly not that way for me. I want what is best for this/our country. That is all.

If you don't think this dude was lying to you for 4 years, then I don't know what to tell you.

But like, that’s still a different topic. I am saying the word border but not talking about Biden or any of that other mess.

Literally all I was saying, was responding to the question or idea of what that center does. Maybe they aren’t needed and the people do nothing and get paid for it. But not hard for me to see how beneficial the idea of it is, for both the previous and current administrations (though for different reasons).
