Feels like the program is dead.

And man I hate saying that.
Sure. It can come back. But it’s going to take finding the right guys to come here. And as we saw with UNC that’s getting harder to do.

I just think it’s going to be a long 365 days.

We need a kick *** for AD.

One that will replace Pope.
One that will rip up that JMI context and say
“Sue me. I don’t give a ****. I’m fixing this”.
and one that will work hard to revamp both FB and Basketball to where it should be.

New AD, a GM with an evaluation team under the GM, New Coach with a better reputation and some proof they can get players, new practice facility, drop Nike (we need to be a flagship brand, not an afterthought). New uniforms design, just a complete revamp to get us into this century. You could avoid a lot of that though with the right hire of a coach.

outside of a 5 year run by pitino and a 5 year run by cal....the program has been largely dead for the past 60-70 years.
I hate to agree, but it’s kind of true. The “UK is always great” narrative is more of a myth/legend than fact over the last 40 years.

We had unbelievable runs from 92-99 and 2010-17. We also nearly faced the death penalty in the 1980s and decided to take the 2000s and 2020s off.

Assuming two more seasons pass with no titles, we’re looking at one championship in the last 30 years. Can’t live on what Rupp did 75 years ago forever.

Our next hire needs to be on the level of Pitino or Cal. Will it be? As it stands now, Pope is a homeless man’s Tubby without the recruiting chops. Ooof.

We will have another one run at some point, but not expecting good news anytime soon.

The next AD hire will pretty much tell the story. Is UK serious about winning, or just business as usual.

12 more months of this BS is hopefully all we have to deal with this current regime. These are dark times for our beloved program!

I'm 45 and we've been way worse than this before. All it takes is competence
45 so you were born in 81? So you were what? 8 years old during probation period? That have a major impact on you back then? lol... Because Pope era is on par with BCG. I would assume thats the worst it was that you can remember.

We'll definitely come back. We always have.

I get what the OP is saying though.

At this point, it does feel dead.

One good hire changes all that, but we need to make that good hire.

Today if possible. 😁
This. I’m not saying we’re dead forever. It’s just not looking good right now.

In this era of NIL, transfer portal madness, and deep money influence…who knows what the future looks like for any program.

The blue bloods are in disarray (UNC, UK), mediocre (UCLA), or just DOA (IU). But Mark Cuban can save IU bball. Who can save the others? What will KU turn into post-Self?

Matt Jones remarks on today’s KSR radio show really hit me like a ton of bricks about the diminishing value of the Kentucky brand.

A few days ago, I stated that Kentucky will be back, because we always come back. I’ve started to reconsider. I’m starting to worry we are on the downhill fast and quick.

- Coaches are no longer attracted to fishbowls.
- We have become toxic to a point of no return. The two schools that continue to operate as bluebloods: UConn and Duke don’t have the same issue. Yes, there are outliers like the Cameron Boozer social media outbursts, but most Duke fans are not in Durham. Their fanbase is much more casual, less concentrated. UConn is in the northeast and their fans don’t care as much.
- Thinking schools with fans that don’t care as much but have financial capital are on the rise. That’s why football schools are kicking tail.

Maybe I’m just having a bad day or a chicken little but I’m not only worried about the short term direction of the program. I’m worried about falling out of relevance
What’s inevitable is that UK will need a Rick Pitino type to resurrect the program like 1989. No UK isn’t in that type of condition now. But the environment demands a brash, ambitious, outsider who can coach and rebuild UKs brand.

Some of you guys only got here during the early Cal years and it shows. also FB seems to be on the uptick so IDK what your post is even about. I guess you're being hyperbolic to be hyperbolic, I will agree that a new AD will help a lot of the bs happening in our program.

I feel like I've seen quite a few folks say they are in their 30's. Mid 30's here. Been reading and posting since I was a teenager.
Technically in my 30s too but boy oh boy I’m on the higher end of it. Just want Kentucky to be Kentucky again. Don’t care how it happens. Don’t care who does it. Don’t care who gets the credit for it.
