Old Fart here...…………
I understand Polk did a lot to move us to the next level and for that I am grateful.
I still would like to see us also recognize earlier coaches and players that made State an extra special place prior to Polk's arrival.
The field is named after a former coach. And Dudy Noble and Boo Ferris were included in the inaugural ring of honor.
Polk did a lot to move college baseball forward. And still is. Great to see someone doing what he loves to help young people. Love that he still uses the typewriter. And the relationship with his former players is astounding.
Great piece. Thanks for sharing.
You do know there were plenty of former players in the pre-Polk era(s) that that did a lot in making our Dogs some pretty darn good teams?
Absolutely that's why I mentioned one that was included in the ring of honor: Boo Ferris. Del Unser is another pre Polk player. My point was that we do remember/memorialize pre Polk players/coaches. The name of the field alone is a reference to a pre-Polk era coach who was also AD.You do know there were plenty of former players in the pre-Polk era(s) that that did a lot in making our Dogs some pretty darn good teams?
