It is absolutely meaningless (except to the Idiocracy contingent of sports fans and "commentators" who need something utterly inane to jabber about)
It has zero impact on anything.
And the day the first "Playoff Committee Rankings" come out - no one talks about it anymore (as they shouldn't ever)

If the rankings still show up next to a team's name on TV when they play, it matters IMO. Agree that it drops off in relevance once the Committee rankings come out, but even then it informs their poll to a degree.

Maybe the writer in my OP was thinking that and just likes the clicks/chaos. Dunno. I mean, the fans and commentators and talking about the sport is sort of why it exists - I get your position with the 'nothing really matters and it's all meaningless' take but that goes for everything everywhere all the time.
