To each their own, but damn, if I had a “buyout” like his coming my way over time, there’s a ZERO percent chance I’d be taking a time wasting job like this one! Dude is set for life off the interest alone, but no, no, he’d rather be the “special assistant” to another rich guy, instead of living life to the absolute fullest!

Money is one h*** of a drug to some people I guess 😂

My money was on UGA. Him and Kirby being pretty good buds and so old school.

Not surprised though. Inevitable he was going to get snatched up. Was the longest tenured SEC coach. Someone was going to want that on their staff.

Programs in the hunt for SEC titles and playoffs do it all the time. Gobble up recently fired HCs.

Mitch Barnhart gave that guy a contract better than 95% of head coaches in the game. No hyperbole, Mitch is the worst AD that I’ve ever heard of without question. It’s hard to fathom how bad the guy is at this. But it’s mainly because he values a lot of sht above winning, he’s a narcissistic clown who thinks he is the university of Kentucky and wants it to reflect his thoughts of who he is. Textbook narcissist.

Has nothing to do with the money if I had to guess. He just loves football. He gets to travel, teach, and be around the game he loves, and he has no financial worries. If I were a billionaire and got offered a UK basketball special assistant job, I would still take it.

Interesting. I guess he changed his mind about Lexington being his home. I wish him well.

Yea its crazy his contract let's him work as a coach again and not subtract from the buyout he got, like most other buyouts. Thats on Mitch I guess.
Agreed....yet UK just sits there and let's him stay on as AD with more unreal one sided contracts not in UK's interest.

Positioning to get a HC gig at Texas one day. Win for us as that will mean a collapse of an SEC giant.

Actually that’s amazing for Texas. If you Can get Stoops in an assistant roll you’re doing good. He’s an asset. Our greatest head coach ever being an assistant? Win for Texas imo. I’m not mad at him. Don’t gotta retire just because Kentucky moved on.

What a traitor!!
Yep. I hold a special place in my heart for all ex-UK coaches. I’ll think of a funny anecdote from a long forgotten press conference or smile briefly at an old KECU commercial and for a brief moment I’ll remember who they were. “Oh yea I remember Scott Rigot.
Good times”!”

But Stoops has screwed that up and now he’s dead to me.

Sark is smart to bring more defensive minded coaches onto his staff. He tried it with Gary Patterson after GP left TCU. Patterson served as an off-field analyst at UT during the 2022 season (then took the 2023 season off before spending six months as a consultant at Baylor before the 2024 season). Will be interesting if Stoops fades away like GP, or ends up as a HC again. Might get to see him coaching some Tuesday night MACtion in the future!

I’m sure he’s working for peanuts, since he’s getting $8mil from UK. Why wouldn’t Texas bring him in. While I never thought he was a good HC he was a good DC

A special assistant is probably going to fetch a 100 Gs. Maybe more.

Especially someone with CMS experience. Also, the fact he’s getting multi millions from UK, he’s not working for less than a nice little jingle in the pocket.

I mean Sark’s office secretary is probably making 75-100 jingles.

Overall no issues. Dude’s life is football. It’s hard to quit something that you’ve done your entire adult life.

What did everyone expect?! He’s just going to hang around the town and state that wanted him gone?!

We don’t want you to coach here but we want you to hang around with us! That’s crazy.

CMS will be an assistant and maybe even coordinator again in the not so distant future. Good for him.

Just like Joker. Still out there coaching. Great. Dude is a good position coach and coordinator.

Why quit the thing you love doing just because you aren’t head man/boss?
