Pickerington Central improved its record to 7-0 with 63-48 (?) win over Walnut Ridge (Columbus City League member). PC will next play on Tuesday at Westerville South (WS) HS, the defending OH big schools state champion. Undefeated WS will be by far the most talented team PC has played. If PC plays as they did tonight they will get blown off the court. For whatever reason PC came out totally uninspired (including our guy Manley!). Starting with the opening tap (which he lost to WR's 6-5 center), Sterling seemed lost tonight. He finished with 8 pts -- 2 of 4 from the field and 4-4 from FT line. He had about 4 blocked shots, but very few rebounds. Finished with 3 fouls (2 of the lazy variety...). Probably only played 16 total minutes due to fouls. Note: I have zero "inside" knowledge but he appeared to be somewhat ill. He did not warm up w/ his teammates prior to the start of the 3rd qtr., but did start the 3rd and played until he got his third foul. There were also several instances where he never made it down the court on offense. PC led by 25+ with about 4 minutes to play when our version of the "blue" team came in and the lead got chopped all the way down to 13 before we scored the last bucket. Hopefully this was just a blip. PC has two other D-I caliber players, but we cannot win at WS without a supreme performance from Manley.
Diamond in the Rough sighting from a UNC fan. Might be avoiding getting hurt this year to be able to play in Chapel Hill next year.
