Two priceless "moments":
1.) Every basketball game he broadcast from Memorial Colesium in Nashville. He HATED it and all things Vanderbilt, and it came out every time. It was always a must-listen event.
2.) Every home basketball game I attended and sat just under him and Jim ('91 to '96). Those were my seats, and you'd smell the cigar smoke and hear some colorful language during timeouts.

Funeral home visitation for a mutual friend, he’s talking to some us and smoking came up (which he did), Jack says: “fellow was getting onto me one time about cigarettes and I told him my dad lived to be 90 (I think but not sure), he asked if my dad smoked and I said no - he minded his own damn business”

His call on the game when Shan Foster was raining 3 after 3 on us in Memorial Gym was pretty amusing........

But my fav is "Bowers drives...fakes.....shoots...SCORES!"

Not a favorite moment per se, but I’ve never heard anyone else use the term “unmolested.” There was something special about the way he would say “Miller crosses the goaline unmolested,” which is always a good thing.

2 more of my favorites:

1) I think it was 2003 playing Tulane, maybe in New Orleans. We're up 28 - 14 late, but not so late we could afford to coast. Well, the next 2 or 3 drives we went conservative and went 3 and out while Tulane scored 2 TD's and tied the game at 28. We get the ball again and once again go 3 and out and I remember Jack saying, "That possession, along with the last 2 or 3 was about as unproductive as any I have seen"

2) 2005 against Ole Miss in Starkville - Game was tied at 7 early, but Croom's offense uncharacteristically blew the game open and we had a 35 - 7 lead about midway in the 4th quarter. I remember Jack saying, "The home fans haven't seen this type of offensive production in quite some time now."

When he took his headset off and cussed Todd Day in Fayetteville when they were up 30 and he’s still in the game raining 3’s. Day finally gets pulled and is walking by Jack with his hands held up like “I’m the greatest” and Jack lit him up!

In that sense Ashley Cooper may have been a serial killer, possibly my favorite defensive player ever at State. But his era was when I fell in love with the Maroon and White, so that probably contributes to my favoritism.

Long before all games were televised, I spent hundreds of hours near the radio listening to Jack describe the details from the hardwood to the gridiron in a language that only he possessed. There was just something special about the way this elderly Jewish man sitting in the heart of Mississippi could mesmerize his audience in a style that was a unique combination of a little Jerry Clower mixed in with your favorite elementary teacher doing story time. And unlike these generic tv announcers of today, you felt that he felt what you felt. When you were on the edge of your seat you knew he was too, and when you were dropping 17 bombs yelling at the radio you felt as though he was holding the “cough” button doing the same. He really was a treasure. This thread has me wanting to dig out my Jack Cristil Roast DVD and rewatch.

There were two things he said that I loved and always marked out when he said them. One was when he referred to the endzone we were moving toward as "the land of milk and honey." The other was when he talked about the football being placed "equidistant between the east and west sideline stripes." I also loved, "He can not go."

Of course, my most favorite Jack Cristil saying was "Wrap it in Maroon and White," as I'm sure pretty much every Bulldog fan would agree, and I'm glad that Neil Price continues to honor Jack by keeping it alive.

“The Bulldogs led onto the court by the Stansbury children; Noah, Isaac, and the youngest Stansbury: Moses.”

2009 Egg Bowl.

The game was over and we decided to stick around and hop on the field. This was back when they still did the coaches shows. We see them setting up and all of a sudden we see the egg bowl trophy. First time I got to hold it (when it was on the square base) and all of a sudden there was Jack. Was kinda nervous to go up and talk but I did and the best thing he told me and it’s always stuck with me is “It’s always a good day when the good guys win the rivalry”. Jack talked to us about Croom saying he was a class act guy and that the way things went down we’re very unfortunate for him and that they were still friends but was very impressed with Mullen and that things were fixing to take off in Starkville. He was right. Said there was no doubt we should’ve won LSU game that year and been in a bowl game. He told me to take care and that he was going home to celebrate in Tupelo for a late thanksgiving with his family. That was my only time interacting with him but I cherish that memory so much!

If you were allowed to choose a time to be an MSU basketball fan, 91 to 96 would be at the top of the list. Can't tell you how many times I drove from Jackson to Starkvegas to be there on a Tuesday or Wednesday night during that stretch.

You guys are far better at names and dates than I have ever been. Who was the running back when Jack used to say "and he tiptoes to the line of scrimmage"?

Not my favorite moment,

But I must admit,

When I heard of Jack's death,

I got inebriated, and cried a bit.

He had been a part of my Bulldog life for decades. (as long as I can remember).

I don't remember the exact year, had to be 90 or 91 though at Rupp Arena.

Hear him take off his headset, then yells at John Clougherty "Did you swallow the damn whistle?"

Then he puts his headset back on and continues like nothing happened.

6-3.
"Bulldogs recover!"
Hit my head on the 8ft ceiling in the house I grew up in.

At FL, 3rd quarter, maybe 1 first down in the game.
I think in the year we let a long time defensive coach be OC:
"Mississippi State takes the field with what resembles an offense."

His ability to paint a picture with words is a big reason I became a State fan.

Piping. You cannot talk about Jack without talking about his description of uniforms and piping. "Bulldogs are resplendent in their Maroon uniforms with white numerals, maroon headgear and white pants with maroon piping"

We were getting dusted by Alabama one time and they put in their 3rd string offense and Jack says, "The Crimson Tide now have their 3rd string offense into the game...that should level things up a bit."

He did something like this @auburn. He’s calling the game, then you here his muffled voice hollering at the official. Next thing you know, he’s back calling the action.

I’d give my left nut to hear some of the funnier interactions between Jack and my favorite color guy John Correro ...anyone have these? (One can only hope Jack)

Back in the early 1970’s we were scheduled to play basketball one night against the rebels. That was back in the days of the old gym. After class we headed to Len Lews to prepare ourselves for the game. Jack came in and sat a bar stool next to me. He had a cheeseburger and a coke. We had a nice visit and it was truly my honor to sit there and talk to him. I had been listening to him since I was probably 6. To me he was kind of like a rock star and at the same time, almost like family. It has been almost 50 years now but I remember like it was yesterday. One of the funniest moments that I remember was probably in the late 70’s or early 80’s. We were playing Southern in Jackson and they had knocked one of our players (Eddie Hornback ) completely out. He laid there limp and a couple of their players were celebrating beside him. In true Jack Cristil form he said that “ they are dancing over the body”. Classic Jack. I still miss him.
