This is why you dont hire coaches with one good core of players, him and golden might fall off when "their guys" leave
Golden lost 3 NBA guards and still ended up a 1 seed the next season. Florida also just landed Kamsi Awaka who is Chinyelu 2.0 and they are about to land Cayden Daughtry who is essentially Walter Clayton if he was a 5 star. Golden is not going to fall off.

Golden is destined to end up in a Title IX scandal.

And was only good for about 4 years with a good core

This is plain ignorance. You don’t last 22 years at one place in today’s big-time CBB world if you’re only good for four years. He’s a damn good coach. Always has been.

But he’s also a dinosaur whose old-fashioned system doesn’t fit today’s NIL/portal era. I wouldn’t be surprised if he soon follows the lead of other coaches from his generation (see Jay Wright, Tony Bennett, etc.) and walks away.

His roster is horse doodoo. Not sure how bleak their NIL situation is, but was surprised he didn't try to do more.

For some reason, there were good programs in on the Ivy League 4, Caden Pierce. Yet he's undersized and can't shoot. Teams got overexcited because his brother plays for the Colts.

This kid Mayer from Israel is oddly robotic.

Cox is a nice player, but more of a role player on a really good team. They have no size outside their 5, who is a tall skinny that can be moved around.

One of the worst Painter rosters I've seen in awhile. It looks like mid major talent with a high D1 center.

Painter is one of those coaches that has recruited at such a low level trying to find diamonds in the rough that he was bound to run into this, while all the top programs are stocking up on great players. He seems unwilling to even try to get in on real transfer talent.

The way the landscape is moving, I think Matt may have seen the last of his deep run potential teams with the exodus of Edey, Smith, TKR and Loyer.

He's a damn good coach that can't adapt or doesn't have the NIL to make the adjustments. He's still working with low level talent he's trying to develop in his system.

He/Purdue may be content with the current operating model. Purdue has been a top 5 program over the last 5 years, have had a 1st or 2nd team All American across 3 players over those years.

There are no more F4's in Painters future. It's too bad he couldn't win in 24 with that Purdue/Edey team, that was going to be his best shot. He just ran into a buzz saw UConn that year.
