For any fair weather season ticket holders that don't want their UK-Mizzou tickets, I'll gladly take them off your hands!! I live in Owensboro and don't get the chance to make games. I also work swing shift and this happens to be my weekend off. I promise to stand and cheer the WHOLE game not just after a dunk!!!

In basketball discussions and on basketball forums, UT can gloat a bit at this point.
But they should probably do so on their own forum.

Hey, @brianpoe. What's all this talk about you having a smokin' hot wife? I've read it here on RR in the past and noticed "TheDude1" mention it on the main board the other day. No offense, just wondered why it has been a big topic on here in the past. I must have missed something.

No idea... personally I think she married up.

I think Barnes is a very solid coach, but I would prefer an guy not as long on the tooth. < insert Tennessee tooth joke here>

I agree that Barnes is solid, just not a big game coach like Cal has proven to be.

I think we are all waiting for you to name your preference as to who you would choose to replace Cal?

On a side note, I am not sure why you find my opinion so irksome. I have not taken to these boards to overtly rip Cal --- ever --- and then retreat to the popular position of wanting him here forever. I am honest and consistent.
I have provided my opinion, laid out my reasoning and stated my appreciation and respect for what he has accomplished.
Why is it so difficult for you to accept a different line of thinking than your own? Why must it be viewed as some personal assault?

Because it is stupid.

Jay Wright has lost in the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament EVERY year Cal has been at UK except once.

This guy is better than Cal?

Nope. And I have never said he was. In fact, I have conceded that whoever the next coach is --- will likely realize LESS success than Cal has during his tenure.
I am not sure what part of this is lost on you, but I have tired of the annual exodus. I am an older fella, and always enjoyed watching players return, develop -- and seeing teams grow and come together over a course of a few seasons.
Perhaps that is idealistic. But I am now willing to trade off the acknowledged dip in success for a structure more suited to what I enjoy as a fan. Why is that hard to comprehend? I am not asking you to agree with it, but you just don't seem to even get it.
It keeps coming back to --- "yeah, but he won't win as many games as Cal".

I assume you were thrilled in the 10 years prior to Cal?

Why is it hard for people like you to understand that we are already there in terms of players returning?

Cal is doing this and he has kids coming in next year that will return.

So wanting a lesser coach is stupid.

The fact that you are willing to accept worse results because 18 year olds don't stick around to entertain you is strange...

I've been around far longer than 10 years ago, and perhaps that perspective allows me the knowledge that the program was no more defined by the tenures Tubby or BCG, than it is any other single coach. Perhaps that perspective and appreciation for the program affords me the confidence that UK will succeed even after Cal.

I am not jilted by 18-year-olds who do --- and often times probably should --- leave. I simply enjoy watching players return, seeing their games improve and develop, and watching teams form. I like that aspect of being a fan. There is nothing really strange about that. Certainly no stranger than you having nearly 12,000 posts --- presumably about 18 to 20 something-year-olds who play basketball to "entertain you". I am not knocking you or your passion for the program. I am just pointing out that we both are fans, but perhaps have some differing perspectives or preferences. I wouldn't call yours "stupid".

Finally, if Cal's recruiting tact shifts --- and we start seeing more multi year players --- so to will my opinion. But I am not sure how you say we "are already there". This team is the youngest in the country, and in Cals tenure. That doesn't happen by being "already there". Perhaps Cal is starting to shift "there" --- we will see.

I am not meaning to put you on the spot -- genuinely curious:

Who coming in next year are safely presuming is a multi-year player? Herro, I'd guess? But you said "kids" -- plural.

As to your other post...

I understand the longer than 10 year fan, but other than 93-98 when did we have a better run? 48-51?

As to being already there, in my opinion and according to history this group has several players that will return... thus the process has already started.

Next year's class could see Herro and Quickly return. I know IQ is highly valued but sharing time with Green and SGA along with some other question marks may cause him to stay.

I get the problems people have with Cal. He's always been an acquired taste. I get that some are ready to move on from his early system here, but you've got to give it time. He hasn't had a few years to adjust.

Wanting Cal gone right now kind of just proves you don't like him, which is fine, some don't. Cal's statements and the way he recruits rubs a lot of people wrong, myself included. But threre's just no way you throw a coach like Cal out, it cannot happen. Accept it, move on.

Again --- you continue to circle back to "better". That is NOT the basis of my hope for change.
I do not think it will be better, and thus arguably --- "worse". I have conceded that countless times.
But it is a strawman argument to pretend the default option is Cal or a BCG type scenario.

I never said BCG...

How about Tubby?

Eddie?

Joe B?

The last 13 years of Rupp?

You tell me which was better?

Oh thats right, you are ok with worse, as long as Cal isnt the coach.....

With all due respect, I see this a s being strangely stupid.

I agree 1000%.
I have never suggested firing him -- that would be certifiably insane. I have tried to communicate that I am ready for a change--- and when he opts to leave --- I will respect the incredible achievements but embrace that change.

I have never been bothered by his statements, and posted yesterday that I think his "back of the jersey" comments are taken out of context. I just dont like the system. But as you said- - - perhaps the apparent need to adjust will shift the structure. I disagree with Brian that it "already has". I think there will again be significant turnover from this team, and to date--- would only forecast Herro as a likely multi-year player. But who knows?

As to Cal's likability --- perhaps his sideline demeanor I find annoying at times. But as I said, I am much less bothered by the comments than some.

So is it your position that UK will fail or flounder following Cal --- like it had during the years you have highlighted?

If so, that is the foundation of our disagreement.

Perhaps I have unwarranted optimism about Kentucky's ability to land a great coach and remain a great program. Perhaps your pessimism is a more realistic tact. But does my confidence make me a bad fan, or "stupid"?

This ^ is me 100%. Cal’s been great. No one can deny that. But as you say, Cal operates a little differently and he rubs some people the wrong way. That’s me. He should be able to leave on his terms ‘when he wants to go’ but I won’t be torn up when that day comes. Just my opinion and I can see why I’m in the minority.

If Kentucky cant win without Cal, no one can win without 1 guy either. You don't look at all of Kentucky's past accomplishments and say only one man can do this. We have more tradition and better numbers historically than anyone. We are the only program with 5 guys that have won titles.

If we cant do it without him, no one else should be able to either.

But that's for when he wants to RETIRE of course.

Here is the issue... if Cal isn't a great a great coach then we havent had one other than Pitino including Rupp after 1958.

You actually prefer a coach who loses every year but once in the tournament with a team that averages 30 wins per season...

Do you really think you would like 8 out of 9 seasons to be upset on the first weekend?

I think you are part of a really large minority though. As I've said previously, there's a reason the 1992 team is in the rafters and is the most beloved UK team of all time. Contrary to smart *** comments here, most people do not expect a title every year, they want passion. Cals types of players lack passion due to youth, and also because he's recruiting guys who typically have already looked past college. He's a master and getting them to buy in though, but it's tough, and the product for most of the year is either too boring because they win big, or boring because of the learning curve and attitudes.

It's just a tough system to like regardless of hardware.

I think he would have greater success at Kentucky. Look, I am not trying to sell you on Wright.

Yes but to wish Cal gone with the current crop of potential replacements it makes little sense.

Jay Wright? A very solid coach. But also lost every year in the 1st weekend with 30 win teams except once since Cal has been at UK.

As to historical numbers, only 93 to 98 match Cal's success going back to 1958....

Why do people think we had Pitino success every decade? We didnt. We have had major droughts.

Yea but my point is the fact that we've had the success we've had THIS decade, and also the 90's, and also the 50's, and 40's, and then one in the 70's etc.....that is THE BEST that anyone has ever done it. If we had a better resume than that, damn. Then we would literally own nearly all of the decades. It's not possible with over 300 D1 teams.
