False positive

Have a friend in his early fourties in great health that went to a clinic to be tested because his mother tested positive. His test came back positive to which he was blown away. Turns out the clinic contacted him later to say that it was a false positive. He found out that everyone who tested there within the hour or two that he was tested were also false positives. Also, one person can be tested multiple times as positive but they all count as new cases and not just one. I can’t wait till after November when much of this stuff will die down.

Eta. The false positives are definitely happening. I have no idea how much, but there are some ****** tests and testing centers. The FBI is on one's *** in San Antonio.

The states are not counting multiple positives from a single person. I get a weekly spreadsheet report from my county and it literally points out duplicates.

The numbers are real. A lot of people are asymptomatic, some get sick, a few get really sick, and the comprised and elderly even succumb to it. Its not a hoax or an attempt to rig the election... Unless you think the entire world is in on it. Over 6,000 deaths per day worldwide. Don't conflate the media freaking out about people dying in the streets with the idea this isn't real and it's all about the election.

The more people think it's fake, the more chance we have of shutting businesses back down, closing schools, and losing sports completely. If you don't want Biden to win the election, do your part and enjoy the outdoors, get your food to go, wear a mask, wash your hands, keep your space, and get on with life.

Matthew Stafford has a false positive. I told you guys a month ago that there's a lot of this. A LOT
It's a business now, and testing isn't handle appropriately everywhere.

You make a critical point. Test sites must not realize that the states remove duplicates from the data sets before they report to HHS/CDC. Stated clean up the data, send new cases (multiple tests for the same person removed) and daily total test results (duplicates not removed).

The CDC has 2 both sets clearly identified on their website.

I get the confusion, every place sends test results to the state the same way, whether a true new cases or duplicates. However, states are absolutely supposed to remove duplicates from the new case data set before they send to HHS/CDC or publish case numbers.

Someone answer me this. In MS we have had 62K positive since March 11, and the MSDH presumably states 41K have recovered. So your current infections in MS is around 21K and that number moves just like the new infections daily. So why don't the just report current cases and not total. That's adding fear to me and not presenting the total numbers

A guy at work got two negative tests but had the exact same symptoms as his girlfriend who had two positives and a positive antibodies test. She is a flight attendant for Delta so Delta did her antibodies test.

I think the overall testing results is a crap shoot both ways. I don't think this has anything to do with the election though.

I’d vote for my daughters pet fish for president if it meant all this crap went away. But some of you guys need to get a grip on reality. The election being over in November is not going to suddenly make this go away. Sure it will give the media something new to cover for a week or so but you still won’t be able to go to a football game. You’re still going to be asked to wear a mask.

so does the math work like this ?
62,000
-41,000
total deaths 21,000
I don't know the numbers but given that simple math it means either 21K deaths or an abundance of false positives

21k sick... not dead

To bulldawgs original question - I believe at least early on it was difficult to count the recovered. Most people aren’t in the hospital so they were told to quarantine two weeks. I assume it’s hard to confirm they were “recovered” if they didn’t get tested again with a negative result.

^This.^ My question is if it's all about the election in the US... Why is the rest of the world so involved? Is the entire world in on a coup? The Olympics have been cancelled for WW1, WW2, and this.

So the rest of the world gone along with this conspiracy? Cuz thsts what it takes for a global pandemic to be a conspiracy to elect a new president.

I could see the focus shifting away a bit after the election if Trump loses. Media that seems to focus on Trump will back off hard and maybe focus on other events and issues more.
But that doesn't mean this is a conspiracy. Thst doesnt mean the virus will leave in 3 months.

I really don’t care what you believe but thanks for calling me and my friend a liar idiot.
I was kind of making a point. You, calling out people saying they shouldn’t believe everything they hear, yet we are supposed to believe your story. It was kind of a joke, my reply that is.

You brought up something I didn't consider. The conversation may be getting fueled by misinformation from front line nurses and clinical staff that don't have a clue as to what is happening with the data after it leaves their hands. It's like asking an E-3 Marine about the theater wide OPSEC when he is only responsible for making sure his radio transmissions are secure.

I am just flabbergasted that there is a portion of the population that think they discovered this major flaw to help support their theory that the cases are inflated. These data are being scrutinized and published by some of the most brilliant people on earth (Johns Hopkins.) With just a tiny little bit of internet search outside of Facebook you can see this has been debunked in various locations where local news has inquired.

Question the governments capabilities. Okay. The media's intentions. Absolutely. The integrity and or intellect of doctors and scientists? That's covidiocy.

There are also false negatives. This just doesn't happen with COVID. It happens with literally all diagnostic tests of that kind. The longer the tests have been around the better they are, but it still happens for even long standing ones. Multiple positives on the same person count as ONE case. That has been stated over and over again by everyone who matters.

EXACTLY. What people are doing is latching on to ANYTHING that they can use to convince themselves that this isn't as bad as it is or that they have the cure. It's been pretty common through history in pandemics. You even see it in accounts of the Black Death.

Soon as that died down somewhat then the media went right back to beating the dead horse. We get it. We know covid kills some and others it has no effect on whatsoever.

I don't think anyone really believes that no one will ever get covid again as soon as voting shuts down.

Many, including me, do believe that a lot of the skewed numbers, purposely misleading news, fear mongering, excessiveness will die down.

The more the media can convince the general population how bad things are now, the more likely the chance of a difference president next term. If you believe that news media is really trying to report the truth without any agenda, then I have some pacific coast properties over here in Arkansas for sale.

It's a medical test. It's not 100% accurate. Even at 90% accurate, you're looking at a ****-ton of false positives and negatives. It's likely everyone would know someone in that 10%, but saying the entire system can't be trusted because of a 10% error rate is just ignorant.

I wasn't comparing it to the Black Death, jeeze. What I SAID was that people latched on to anything to make it seem like they had the cure or that it wasn't that bad EVEN THEN. I used something that was much worse at the time on purpose. There is that little word "even" in the original post. I guess you missed that.

Now as for today, I wish it was the Bubonic Plague in it's current form. THAT we can cure with off the shelf drugs.

I understand it was not a direct comparison, but I do understand the subtleties of writing and inference (English 27 ACT). You knew what you were doing. You were trying to give weight to the seriousness of the corona virus by placing it in the same sentence as the black death.

I didn't do a state by state search. But here you go. And here is the meat of the story.

How it’s calculated
Here’s how state officials say the positivity rate is calculated:

“We only count the positive test once,” Alina Alonso, the head of the Palm Beach County Department of Health, told Palm Beach County commissioners on July 7.

“We do count the negative tests more than once because there are reasons for people testing negative and getting multiple test results. But the positives by name are only captured once,” she said.

That means that the same person with multiple negative tests can be counted several times.

So the state is only counting positive cases once, but the y are counting negatives each time... Which is accurate. If I am exposed three times I am only going to get it once (we hope), but I can be negative on 3 separate occasions.

https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronavirus/fl-ne-positivity-rate-florida-paints-rosy-pandemic-picture-20200715-cpwwngaefzdnpitbs7buh7zsei-story.html

Here's what you are talking about. Nothing to do with double counting, just positivity rate issues. But if you read the hospital in question has a rate of 18% overall which was inline with state reports.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2020/07/15/florida-coronavirus-tests-hospital-disputes-100-positive-report/5445139002/

Are fake testing centers using fake testing kits and making up fake ****... I have no idea. But the double counting of positive tests from the same individual has been accounted for by the professionals. If you have information suggesting otherwise, please share a link.

First of all, I don’t see many media beating in the ground false positives, which is what you started this thread with.

Secondly, who cares if the media is reporting it 24/7 or not. It’s still out there. It’s still impacting the way we have to go about life. Turn off the news station if it bothers you the way it’s reported.

Lord man, my point is exactly that it is still out there so why then beat it into the ground? Agenda maybe? As far the news goes I quit watching/reading about covid but I cant watch tv, read the paper, read fb or even this page without it being shoved down our throats. Granted I did make this post but ONLY to bring awareness to the inconsitent tests that the media keeps driving down our throats about all the new cases every single day. BTW, You saw my topic so you didn't have to read it if it offends you.

Nothing about the topic offends me at all. I just don’t understand the logic behind the thought process. Nothing will change about the actual virus immediately after the election.

Unless the vaccine is really already developed and the dems are keeping it under wraps until Biden wins**
