I'd guess Pikiell wants to play man as much as he can. I am just looking at a small step backwards defensively. All things equal no more than a basket per game.

Just thinking about the players that the program lost, and think their defense can be replaced.

Pikiell did say Mathis can be a great defender, he just has to realize it. Something to those terms. Kiss will give a lot of effort, and rebound well.

Baker should be able to do what Sanders did at a more consistent rate. Sanders was not an above average consistently.

At times he was, but he was highly inconsistent on the defensive end, on ball or off ball. I think he was better his first year under Pikiell than last year. Consistency is key, and I think Baker can bring that.

Not as athletic as Sanders, but players with a good IQ of the game.

Baker's length can also make up for some of the athleticism. Also he's 15lbs stronger I've heard. Size and length can bother other team's PGs. It's not ONLY about foot speed

We can switch 1-4 with just about any lineup we put on the floor. I think We will play a ton of man.

That 1st year with Mike Rice we had pretty poor on ball defenders and we were actually pretty good defensively playing almost all man switching on everything. They were all upperclassmen too which certainly helps.

This may be generally true, but not entirely. It’s going to depend upon the quickness of the guards who we play against.

I think Thiam is going to be asked to key the whole defense when he is in the game with a lot of switching, trapping, and help. He is the one best equipped to switch or slide over to help disrupt athletic guards that Geo/Mathis/Kiss/McConnell will have trouble containing.
