Great info, thanksBlake DuDonis (Fairfield AC & husband of HC) told us that they are close to Raina. He approached her last February about possibly coming to play us, and Iowa was open to playing.They are a very good opponent to help the Iowa team get better, especially given that Drake and UNI are having off years.
He said they were excited to "play in front of one of the best crowds in the country" and to get to face the kind of teams they'll hopefully get to see in the tournament.
He also said "We also recruit Iowa and Minnesota a decent bit, so also created a chance for some of our recruits to see us in person when normally they wouldn’t." Maybe not the player direction we'd preferBut likely not Iowa recruits anyway.
I don't think Fairfield usually loses many to the portal. They tend to get good players from less successful midmajor teams (Marshall,Sienna, N Texas, etc.) They actually got Huerter from Rutgers last year and Alli Campbell from PSU in the portal from the Big10 for this season. Alli was a highly rated 5* (grade 98) Notre Dame recruit in the ESPN 2020 class. She hated ND. Apparently Ivey froze her out. She transferred to PSU quickly. She then had 2 ACL tearsbut played 3 years at PSU and is spending her final grad/Covid year with Fairfield. She has never really been outstanding though, but was ok on the struggling PSU teams these last few years.
Addie and Ava on the court along w Chit Chat when she is back. Love Stremlow but she is not a point. They need CC vs ISU.
Didn't get a chance to watch the game earlier. Just finished. I don't know where to begin LOL. I guess the Fairfield coach wants her team to be WNBA ready. Grabbing, hacking, etc. I enjoyed seeing Ava go for a block late and she got that big paw up there lol. At some point, I just thought, look, we got a decent lead so let them break their little old 3 point record. Just come down and answer with a two. I'm surprised Brown didn't foul out. Give them credit though. They were pesky little critters and played hard. Glad to see KF hit a few shots as well.
Villanova, a team that Fairfield beat by double digits, just won at #25 West Virginia 81-59.
I was there.. they got booed.. during the action, leaving the court at half, coming onto the court before the second half. My daughter who went to her 3rd game.. but first that she really recognizes what is happening said, “these refs suck.”

I was wondering if she was related to the ex Spartan. man we tried to bring him in twice, and just couldn't close the deal.

Their whole offense was to penetrate and then kick it out to the three point line when the defense collapsed. Not to often you see a team shoot almost 40 threes, but they knew that was their only shot to stay in the game.

Fairfield with a Quad 3 loss today at Howard. Marginally unhelpful for Iowa’s metrics. Fairfield has a currently Quad 1 opportunity on Sunday at Richmond.
