I haven't heard anyone say it was "illegal" for Other sec fans to be there.
Figure of speech, but you yourself are requesting guardrails to be set up by the athletic department and ticket office to make it more difficult for opposing fans to get tickets. See below.
MSU athletics is a business, with multiple products to sell. One of those products is tickets to home games. Its not at all in the best interest of the business (and by extension - MSU as a whole) for them to intentionally make it more difficult for ANYONE to have access to buying unsold product
However with the current seating arrangement, Selmon running prices up (which he can control)
Selmon can control prices to an extent. But, there’s a $20.5 million annual shortfall being carried forward every year now that was on nobody’s balance sheet until recently. He can’t charge any less for the tickets than what is required to keep the department operating in the black. Football ticket sales are the biggest source of revenue for MSU athletics that they have direct control over. It must be maximized.
Its an unenviable position. The university can only sell the tickets once. I don’t blame them for sticking to the price structure until the market requires a lower price.
and the AD office making the tickets easily accessible to just anyone.... you make it to easy for the other fan bases.
That’s the thing, they are only “accessible” to just anyone because they went unsold as season tickets. They still will be sold at the highest price that the school can get for them at some point.
Absolutely nothing listed above made it easier on opposing fanbases to get tickets than 7-17 / 1-15 in SEC play over the 2 year period leading up to a required $20.5 million annual operating expense reduction. Those are the issues.
All that needs to be re-thought and they need to come up with more incentives for State fans to buy, more creative seating ideas to cover the east side, etc etc etc.
I’m never against rethinking anything, even things that are working in a positive direction, if it can be made better. But its important to also understand the big picture. There were some hellacious headwinds for a really long time before that Arizona State game.
