At the 10:45 mark, Izzo is asked about if he should be playing more bench minutes to keep his team fresh. Interesting response - basically, how about having the bench guys work harder to be better ready to contribute? Rutgers game will be a physical battle too.

I like Izzo (other than turning head potentially during trainer scandal, still a question if he knew or not), but assuming he didn’t, he’s a great coach of course and tells it like it is, and always praised Pike even when they blew us out, and hasn’t changed that tone the past couple games either when we were the ones blowing THEM out

He basically said he's lacking real depth on his bench -- ' ..look, if I had guys who were good enough to play,
I would've played 'em.' Rare to hear that kind of blunt criticism in these post-game recaps

I did not watch a second of the video. I do know that of all the coaches in the Big Ten, Izzo seems to get more time on the sideline than any Big Ten coach when it comes to talking-to-the-ref time. He pleads his case all game long. Amusing that he barks about officiating.

Yes, nothing strikes fear into the heart of a ref like being called out in the middle of a press conference that virtually no one will watch.
He’s in the refs ear every chance he gets…and he gets special treatment because of it. Always has. Perhaps he’s “earned” it but it’s still not right.

Watch from 7 minute mark to 8 minute mark specifically. What a jerk....classless..

I don't get "jerk" from that clip. He explained to a sports journalist who covers basketball a rather obvious point. The question was almost as ridiculous as asking if allowing the players to wear different sneakers is the right "call".

He’s already working the refs for our game. The refs know he’ll call them out if they F with him. Smart.
Yep.. he wants everyone reporting on how PHYSICAL Rutgers is.. maybe the refs catch it on the local news sports segment. We all know that Rutgers is athletic and well-conditioned.. tough that way. By "physical" the way he uses it.. nope. He actually talks about Cliff's lower body like he uses it to push guys around when he actually gets pushed under teh basket over and over and uses his athleticism and reach to stay involved.

Yeah.. Izzo is working the refs and media. Its like how Skip Holts would say each of his next opponents was a tough game ahead of them... in case of a loss.. SEC coaches on how tough the league is.. in case of a loss.. and, of course, to hope get some whistles for his Spartans when Rutgers gets "physical".

Got to RAC very early for a women's game years ago. CVS, (no nasty remarks) was running some drills. Izzo had his guys still sitting on their bench. I got to talk to him for a couple of minutes. Asked him why they were still sitting there. He explained very nicely. "Because my guys forgot how to play defense." So they sat a bit longer, then left. He turned around waved, and said good luck today.

Everyone in the BIG 10, including the refs, know we are physical . . .

He gave ‘em a timeout. That’s great. 🤣

He’s a hell of a coach, so I’m guessing he knew what would/wouldn’t work with that particular team. But I can say, with experience, that such punitive measures can sometimes backfire with some teams.

The hook and hold Edy put on the MSU player was egregious and could have caused a serious injury. But not only was Edy not penalized, the MSU player was called for a foul.
Edey grabbed the ball and ripped it away. Not his fault Sissoko had his arm reaching in.

Hook and hold came from an Isaac Haas injury and it was done to prevent players hooking a guy's arm before they go up for a rebound.

Izzo press conference today. He talks about Rutgers around the 15:15 mark. Very complimentary, says we are might be the toughest team in the league, plus we have size and experience. He mentioned the Ohio State game too or we'd be 6-1.

He talks about Cliff around the 21:45 mark.

His timeline is wrong. This will be the 4th straight winning season. The only player on the roster who has experienced a losing season is Caleb. This current team hasn’t taken “beatings” as Izzo claims.

Think he was implying we’re a battle tested team that’s been through some bad losses and some gut punch heartbreakers in big games and have learned from that.
