Why do so many Marshall fans feel the need to put their trade in their message board name?

Banker... Chemist... Marine... etc...

To differentiate themselves between the majority of Marshall grads, who are unemployed, on disability, drug dealers, or substitute teachers...

It just seems like an attempt at validation or something.

I have a job, but it is what I do, not who I am. I am a veteran, but that is only one part of my life.

I guess I don't define myself by what I do to make a living.

I guess I could have used something cool like wee wee or the name of a professional wrassler. Maybe I could have used some derivative of MU or Herd like 9,000 other people. Real question is, why does it matter what my fake internet name is?
