Coming off 2 straight trips to Omaha and 4 straight Supers, I was wondering what our baseline of success is/should be. So, going forward, what do you expect of our program? Over a 5 year period:

How many regionals?
How many times hosting a regional?
How many national seeds
How many Supers?
How many CWSs?

This is pretty reasonable. If you can do that long term, you have a lot of chances to win big.

For reference, this is how often we’ve achieved each of those since tourney expansion (1999-2019):

regional ~4 out of 5 years
host regional ~1 out of 5 years
top-8 seed 1 out of 10.5 years
super regional ~2 out of 5 years
CWS ~1 out of 5 years

For context we also werent running a modern day baseball program from 1999-2008. Thats also the time frame all the good coaches in the SEC came in and turned programs like Ark, Florida, OM, Vandy, SC into big time programs.

top-8 seed ~1 out of 5 years
super regional ~3 out of 5 years

You really have to ignore Cohens first two years. He inherited an absolute disaster. Which means we have been to Supers 6 of the last 9 seasons. 3 CWS in the last 9 seasons. Host a regional 4 of the last 10. I think thats a better picture of what we are capable of except the Super regional number. Thats probably an anomaly

State has played in 32 Regionals since 1976, and has won 14 of them.
In that time period, they played in 10 of their 11 CWS appearances.

So that is 32 Regionals in the past 39 years. No tourney in 2020. That is pretty strong!

I don’t care about what happens every 5 years, I want a natty. That’s the only thing that will really make me happy with this baseball program.

I think we should all be comfortable admitting that to ourselves.

Of course we want a natty.

If you do what was listed every 5 years, your chances of winning a natty goes up.
